About LUIS TEJADA

Hello friends and fans of RSL....

I just want to know if this is true:

Tejada to Be Released from RSL
Written by Mark Peterson
Saturday, 05 May 2007
As part of Kreis’ post-game media conference, the media from a local Spanish station asked Kreis why the Panamanian, Luis Tejada, hasn’t gotten a chance to figure for the team. Kreis explained that Tejada’s fitness hasn’t been up to snuff since he arrived in the U.S. He indicated that RSL had given him a chance to prove his fitness but that it continues to be sub-par.

Later in the locker room, Tejada was seen in tears. I tried to do an interview with him but he said he didn’t feel much like talking. The same Spanish-speaking reporters were interviewing Kreis. As they finished their interview I pointed out to them that Tejada was in tears. They told me that Kreis had just made it clear that he was dropping Tejada from the team.

Afterwards I found Luis outside the stadium gates and again tried to converse with him. A Spanish-speaking fan was happily asking for his autograph. I asked him if it was bad news. He nodded in affirmation.

Thank you...

That's sad. But Kreis is a fitness fanatic.

Yes, he is. And that is one of the few things that I actually faulted Ellinger on. And that is one of the reasons I feel very hopefull that our new coach is Jason Kreis.

I have always felt that the fitness level of our players was not quite equal to the other teams in the league. And I have felt that Ellinger didn't push them enough on that score. I beleive the "boom has now been lowered". Kreis will require players to work hard to maintain the fitness that is necessary to play in MLS. That alone, I believe, will make a big difference. But I also expect Kreis to make better decissions during the game.

There is no reason that a lowland team should be able to come up to altitude and run with us for a full 90 minutes. I hope he changes that.

Well if they are fit, I can see a visiting team running for the full 90 minutes, but our team sure as heck ought to be able to run along with them.

Chris Brown was on our podcast (that we recorded today) and he has mentioned Kreis is doing a lot more conditioning. I want to see a practice but so far I love what Kreis is doing.

Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

As a coach, I would rather my athletes conditioned outside of practice. Practice time is often too valuable to work on conditioning when it could be better spent on skill development. Of course there always drills that work on both.

Of course my league has a 6 hour a week practice limit, so that does make things a bit more challenging.
