Pablo Brenes gone? Say it ain't so! http://oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3129998
Real Salt Lake today announced that midfielder Pablo Brenes, who was selected in the third round of the 2004 MLS Expansion Draft from the MetroStars, has been transferred to Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica. In exchange, Saprissa transfers 24-year defender Douglas Sequeira to RSL. In a separate transaction, Real traded Sequeira to fellow expansion team Club Deportivo Chivas USA for a 2007 second round MLS SuperDraft pick. Ok, my official comment is: THIS SUCKS, we got the raw one on this deal.

Yeah, on the surface it sounds like it really does suck. The only thing that I can think of that makes it better is that Brenes was really unhappy and wouldn't have been very productive anyway, so they got something out of him rather than simply releasing him. At least that's what I'm going to tell myself.

Concur. Can't find anything good about this one. My question would be: Was it common knowledge before the SD that Brenes wanted to go back home? I don't recall, but the Metros look much better than us, if for no other reason than they fill the international spot sooner. Or they dumped a lame duck on the expansion guys. Looking (very hard) for a silver lining, at least it happened now and not well into the season when team chemistry had been established. By that reasoning, though, it would have been better to never draft him in the first place! No, it just sucks.

One silver lining is that RSL only has to cut 1 more player to make the 28 man roster...
Brenes didn't want to play in an RSL uniform which, by all accounts, is a minority feeling among players... Why keep him if there were even the slightest chance that he might be a hinderance and a disrupting influence on the team chemistry... There are enough players that actually want to play for RSL so why not focus on them. Two silver linings... 1) we get our roster 1 slot closer to league requirements. 2) we didn't just cut him and get nothing for our efforts like the Kevin Ara cut! We might not be so lucky in our efforts to capitalize on our last required cut! Just trying to find something positive in this and it really is not that hard if you try.

I'd like this better if it were a 2006 draft pick.
Thanks to Pulpo Zuniga, Thomas Rongen & Ramon Ramirez; Chivas' 2006 2nd round Superdraft pick is going to almost be a first round pick.

With the draft picks that were shuffled around we basically we Cila for Brenes, right?
June 4th option A: ride Brenes hard option B: taunt Brenes without mercy for not making the CR nats afterall.
