After I picked myself up, retrieved the ball and was headed for the corner, someone asked, "Hey, weren't you wearing glasses?"
I would like to thank that person. I was able to bend them into a passing likeness of what I was wearing when I left the house. My sweet wife would have killed me. As it was I had to pretend that I wasn't sore after having my old body slammed to the hard pitch several times, once by the ball as I headed it. I pulled something high on my right thigh and I can't lift my leg more than six inches. It's getting better though. It's not fun to see how far my soccer skills have deteriorated. When I did make a play it took forever to recover so I could try again. Meanwhile the left side was an open invitation. WHEN CAN WE DO IT AGAIN?

Might I suggest that we do this more than once a year?

One thing I have learned from helping run various organizations: special things that are great once a year or less, become poorly attended and tiresome to stage when done more often. When something is done rarely, it retains its specialness.

Wasn't there a Adult Rec team made up of Loyalists and RCB members last year coached by I_Believe_In_Kreis?

I think a Thanksgiving morning tradition is definitely a good way to go. The fact that we had (close to) enough people to field 3 teams is also encouraging. Perhaps a few of us that live closer together can arrange smaller games more often, but full-on 11-on-11 soccer is generally hard to put together. I personally love playing more 6-player, 7-player, or 8-player-per-team soccer. I get more of the ball that way it seems, kind of like 3-on-3 basketball.
I used to play down in Provo every Saturday morning, but then all my lazy coworkers stopped getting up to come play. That straight pissed me off, but I guess I know how it feels now, working 40 hours a week, taking 12 credit-hours at school, and having a wife and a little boy to take care of doesn't leave me with any time for soccer right now. I was pretty lucky to have my wife's blessing to head up to Cottonwood on Thursday!!! I'm hoping to pick it back up next semester once my class load is a little lighter... It was a blast to play alongside Cunningham (did I REALLY just throw the ball in to the 2006 GOLDEN BOOT WINNER?!?!?!?!), probably one of the neatest things I will ever do in all my sporting life, and that was definitely worth the drive up from Orem. See you all next year! --Geoff

Sorry to be gone so long......I just now woke up from my post-Gravy Bowl nap.
After Thursday I decided there are some benefits to being a fan of a 2nd-class sport in America: The players are more accessible and more down to earth. I feel sorry for any of you who were forced into a family Turkey Bowl - we had the leading scorer in MLS at our game......I bet you didn't have Peyton Manning at yours. There are some people I want to publicly thank for their contributions: - Laura (luvmyboys) for her work in collecting donations for the Food Bank and handing out swag. We're lucky to have a person with such a big heart in our midst. - Reed (utah_heretic) for coming up with the Food Bank idea, also for being an all-around good guy and a hell of a soccer player. - RSL for supplying swag. - Jeff Cunningham for being a straight up stud and coming out to play a game that was way below his level. Also for not making me look too bad. 🙂 And for those that wonder, yes, he is that quick with the ball. - RSL trainer Jake Joachim. He showed he can do more than lift weights - he's a decent player. - Deuce and rslfutbolfan for taking pictures. - freedom, Glenn, and the guys from the Republican soccer team for bringing equipment. - Finally, thanks to everyone who donated to the Food Bank and participated in a very fun, well-contested match. Lost and Found There were a pair of Nike boots left at the field, and a ball with some initials on it. If you're missing either of those, I've got 'em.
Thanks to all who came, organized, played, took pictures, cheered, and whatever else you did. It was a fun time, I'll see you there next year.

For the last time:
IT's THE GRAVY CUP (Bowls are for pointy ball) __________________
When my mother was pregnant with me they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later they discovered that I had reabsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.
