RCB...why not?

1st of all, let me just assure you that I'm not complaining here, just making an observation or two.

2nd, all of you who go to all the games and cheer until you're hoarse for a week regardless of how RSL plays know that going to the games can be more demanding than work...sometimes it's a friggin' job. And why do we do it? To ostensibly give our team a better home field advantage. Does it work? I hope so...I hope that we are the most supportive - and brutal - fans in the league. I go home from each of those games physically spent. Yelling for 2 45 minute periods is tough!

Last year when the RCB was in section 33, I remember Andy Williams coming over and giving us some shoes or some such thing, Jamie Watson coming over and giving his shirt to Loyal1 (I think that's who it was), DJ Countess came over and gave us his gloves after a match...they really showed their appreciation. And, while I'd do it anyway, having them come over and express their appreciation means a lot, and shows that they really do care about what we're trying to do.

This year, it seems like the only person who gives a rat's ass is JC. He's thrown his shirt in our general direction a few times and seems to appreciate what we're doing. Watson came over in his suit during the last game and said some nice things. It'd be nice - again, not necessary because we'd do it anyway - to have them express appreciation. Because seriously, if we're not THE best fans in the league, we've got to rank high up there.

Last year it was easy to find the loudest fans in the stadium... they were all in the north east corner... e32 and e33... because the product on the field sucked ass it was easy to find the dedicated fans that made noise because they were the only consistently noisy area in the stadium...

this year the supporters are not concentrated in one corner... they are spread throughout the stadium... in e32, e37, e38 and a couple of places on the north and north west side.

I stand on the field and I hear all of the groups... and the un-organised masses as well (I don't discount the north end either) and to be completely honest with all of you...
You all should be proud of the way you all created a home field advantage...

both of the major groups have their strong points and equally have their points that need some work... and in reality both groups (I am guilty of this as well) but both groups in some warped sense of competition work toward showing up each other and in the end they all look like dumbasses because in the grand scheme of things it is not about red vs. black, RCB vs. Loyalist...

it is about supporting RSL... it is about creating a home field advantage... it is about making as much noise as humanly possible...

If the players acknowledge us as groups or individuals is irrellevant...

Yes it is nice when it happens... but when we all start expecting it and getting upset when it does not happen or we rub it in when it happens to one group and not the other... That is when we should all start asking why we are really there...

Perhaps it's not so much an expectation, but rather we miss it. It happened quite a bit last year, and it felt good. It doesn't happen nearly as much this year, and we miss it. I don't expect it to do a good job as a fan, but it is nice when it happens.

Same thing applies in other areas of life. I don't require that my family thank me all the time for what I do for them, but it's still nice. Same thing at work.

Just don't expect the team to really do too many favors for anyone. If it happens, great, if not, expect that. I honestly would be in favor of putting both groups together, in a supporter's section, similar to chicago's section 8. There are like 6 or so different groups in section 8, each different, but each working for the same general thing.

You are not alone in this thinking... I think it does make a lot of sense...

It can work...
There will have to be alot of pride-swallowing and a bunch of forgive and forget... on both sides of the issues... but it is do-able...

I think the ultimate goal is worth the taste of a little bit of crow and a pinch of pride...

I hope I am not alone

appreciation

I haven't been posting for a while but this thread brings up some points that really interest me. I agree with the posters who say we shouldn't expect the players recognition, but I also agree with those who said it was really nice. It really was. Last year it felt like we were part of the team and they recognized us as being important. We sang and yelled and jumped all game long for them and it seemed like they really appreciated it. I don't know it was like we had a relationship. Now it is like when you had a close friend who became popular and decided he was too good to talk to you. It hurts.

I have been in favor of the idea of putting the groups together for a while now. We would need to work things out but we could make a much bigger sound!

I really don't think there is as much "working stuff out" as you guys think there would be. Granted, I have no idea what the history is, but you've only been around a couple years so I can't imagine it is too deep rooted.

In DC we've got Barra Brava and the Screaming Eagles who stand in sections next to each other. The two groups have had their differences, the Screaming Eagles tend to be a little more tame than us in Barra Brava, but as long as we keep our craziness on our side they don't get too upset. And in the end, we're all there for the same reason.
