Ref's Call The Injuries Missed this one a couple of weeks ago. Seems like an interesting move, especially on top of saturday's events.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/4796269.stm The Premier League has asked players, managers and referees to end the custom of the ball being kicked out of play when a player goes down injured. Decisions on whether a break in play is necessary for treatment to be received will now be taken by the referee. "There was a general feeling that this player-led convention had gone too far," Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson told BBC Sport. __________________

Coincides with the start of the EPL season. MLS should consider the policy during the off season- not now.

If they do this, then they need another official on the field who is trailing the play. Otherwise the ref's attention will be split and he won't be able to follow the run of play. He would have to decide, do I go and see if the player is hurt or do I let them play on and see what happens - knowing that a player might be hurt and a team is playing short-handed.
I think they need to go to a second on-field ref anyways. But if they do give it to the official to stop play then there needs to be penalties for players who are not hurt. If play is stopped, the player leaves the field for 3-5 minutes. If he is not hurt then there should be a card. __________________

Thae trail AR can handle that in MLS. If there is an injury that needs the CR's attention the AR can just press the button on his flag.

I would like to know a few things about the refs....
First............do they get reviewed after the match or yearly or reprimanded in anyway for a poorly called game? Second....are the refs in other parts of the country as bad as the ones we usually get? Third...what do you have to do to be a ref here? Forth...How much do they get paid? Fifth...Why do they hate us? Oh and Sixth...how do we get that one from last Wednesdays game back?

First.. MLS refs are assessed every game. Grade 8s do not need to be assesses to recertify. Grade 7s need to be assessed once a year to recertify as a 7 or they revert to an 8. Higher levels require more assessments and at higher-level games. Second.. They're probably about the same; not perfect but much better than they are given credit for. Third.. Take the Grade 8 course. It's 18 hours. Pass a 100-question test with a score of 80 (IIRC). To continue, you must have at least five hours of additional training and pass the test for that year. Fourth.. It depends on the game. Local rec leagues pay very little or don't pay at all. State (competition) youth (U14 and below) games pay $30 for a center and $16 for a line. U15 and better get 40/20. Adult leagues are 40/25, 36/20, or 30/18, depending on the division. High School is 39/28 varsity, 25/25 JV/Soph (dual system), and 42/42 post season. I don't know what the hispanic league, NISOA, or the professional leagues pay. Fifth.. They don't Sixth.. It works a lot like this: :wallbash:
