And another idea: Post-goal player cheer |

And another idea: Post-goal player cheer OK, so my last suggestion (a kop-style band) was met with overwhelming indifference. Let's see what you think of this one.
In Germany (and a few other places), when a player is announced after a score, the announcer says the first name and the crowd follows with the last name. Simple, low tech, but it sounds really cool. Watch a game from Germany and you can't miss it. I'm suggesting it because: 1. Connects with the players. What player wouldn't want to hear his name shouted by the crowd, in unison, after a goal? 2. Connects with the club. This would have to be coordinated with the club, so that the announcer is on board. I think they'd go for it, to support crowd involvement. 3. Nobody else in MLS does it. To my knowledge, no one does this. We'd be the first. Yes, some supporters groups do the "An-te Ra-zov" clap thing, but that's like a college basketball thing. OK, but nothing special. 4. Understandable for casual fans. Easy to understand what we're doing, and in post-goal euphoria just about anyone will let loose and cheer with strangers. OK, take your shots. I'm ready this time.

Good idea Rover. I suggested something similar that they do at the AS Roma games, which is that before the game when they announce the starting lineup, the PA announcer only would say the player's first name, and then the crowd would shout his last name. I brought it up at a Loyalists meeting and the Fitz-Gerald and Pastorino seemed to like the idea (for all the reasons you mention) but the only concern is that most of the new/casual/fans who don't know who the players are would not be able to participate.
I think it would still work, if they put the name of the player on the jumbotron. People would catch on very quickly, and soon we'd have the whole stadium yelling "KREAMALMEYER!!!" __________________

Absolutely! I have always admired this in German football. However, I think it would only work if EVERYONE got behind it in the stadium. But, yes, I certainly want to have a go at it. I have often wondered why this isn't more widespread. I love it when the Germans do this. Very cool.
Czar: good suggestion about the jumbotron. Can I bring my electronic, battery-operated megaphone?

Exactly what I was thinking. Not surprised to see others got there first. Using the Jumbotron is a good call for the casuals. Folks will catch on fairly quickly. Deuce is right--we're going to have to practice some of these names! Arelius--megaphones will help. Just no plastic horns, right? 😉 (Sorry Jim).

This is a great idea, and it's much, much better, than yelling "CHARGE!!!"

You SHOULD be sorry! But, as you probably guessed, even I would have a hard time blowing on the horn and shouting, "SELOWachamacallit" at the same time. Quote:
Forget, "CHARGE!!!". Don't even mention, "CHARGE!!!". Don't give anyone any ideas about, "CHARGE!!!". And no organ playing "do do do do - do do". AAAAAAAAAAARGH!

I like this idea a lot. I definitely think that we should do it. It might take a few times to get everyone on board, but I think it would really take off after that.

I now it is becoming cliche but I always enjoy the chant of the names that sound like boo's. ala Moose Johnston of the Dallas Cowboys. The whole crowd yelling Luke after he scores does make an impression.
