Regarding some of the Tribune’s article (Soccer being on the critical list) :
It seems like the team really isn’t saying much of anything to the press lately. (What’s the point? The papers will just pick and choose whatever comments they want in order to make the team look as bad as possible). After some communication with a few people in recent days, I get the impression (just an impression mind you) that RSL is working hard right now at finding some sort of solution to keep the team here and trying to keep things secret and quiet. Possibly part of the reason is so the press can’t run with it and manipulate the public with biased subjective yellow journalism and so that public opinion can’t squash plans before they get revealed. I feel one of the biggest problems with Sandy is a lot of it got out in the open long before it could be approved, almost like a poker player showing his hand before the bets are made. I do know that a lot of people have a lot of time, money, and effort put into this team and don’t want to see it fail now. It can possibly be argued that the efforts haven’t always been used to the greatest efficiency, but the efforts have been there. As fans, who want the team to stay around, many of us have been frustrated over what some perceive is incompetence from the front office. We need to keep in mind that as the team in struggling on the field as new players all try to come together and compete against well-seasoned teams with many years on the pitch together, the front office is also essentially comprised largely with people new to the sport. It is sort of like trying to put a team on the pitch with 11 rookies on it. The rookies would struggle against more experienced teams for a while, but after a few years could turn into a competitive team. Hopefully the front office personnel will learn from mistakes and misjudgments that have been made and get things together in time to keep the team here for a long time. | |||||
