Wow, Sandy seems like it could really be dead now. In the SL Trib article Councilman Wilde now says he isn't going to endorse anything until it goes onto a ballot and is approved by voters. And we all know what will happen if it goes to a vote.

Vinyard here we come.

Promising news from the Des News article though. The Geneva Steel proposal seems like a done deal if nothing works out anywhere else. No taxpayer money at all would be needed thanks to ample RDA money to revitalize old industrial sites. And men with money ready to buy the team if Uncle Dave decides to sell.

Since I'm moving to Pleasant Grove next year I'm sitting pretty. Plus I'd love to see Salt Lake County loose out on all the tax income RSL would have provided them.

This is one HUGE reason, IMO to look at both Davis and Utah counties as viable options. Let SLC miss out on years and decades of tax revenue.

I wonder if Checketts would rather move the team to Utah County or sell the team?

If he sells to the Geneva people, they said they would rename the team... Maybe I'll get my Lake City FC after all!

Would St. Loo or Rochester pay him more for the team than Geneva? Would he take the Geneva offer anyway to keep the team in Utah for the fans of the team?

I always thought Utah County was out of state... 😁

Seriously tho... if they are going to rename the team I hope they get a deal done for Sandy or Downtown then...

I don't know if I could get as excited about something like the Utah Saints although they had a hit song in the 80's

I definitely want to see Checkett's keep the team. BUT, if it's between the team leaving Utah and the stadium changing owners, names, and location, I'll take the latter any day!

They could play in Federal Trade Commission Stadium.

Any indication as to how drastic the name change would be? Real Utah?

The Boom?

I heard a discussion of what happens if the team is put up for sale. #1 Dave Checketts doesnt' get to choose the buyer. #2 MLS owns 51% of RSL technically so all decisions along that nature are up to them. Anybody want to confirm or deny?

I say there's a snowball's chance in Phoenix that MLS would choose Vineyard, Utah over any of the other potential buyers unless the stadium thing is the determining factor..

Ellinger Gets Manly: 7/18/06

Coach Ellinger joined 1280 The Zone's Manly Morning Show for a quick discussion. The win in New England, the reserves playing this Wednesday and Saturday's match with Dallas were all topics on tap. Here's hoping RSL scores 5 goals soon!
