Rights of a Supporter

Allow me to get on my soap box for a few...
Tonight was a great game, we dominated the other team. It seems we are doing that more and more and it seems it is a matter of a few more games before we really start to click. With that, as a fan I feel I have a right to critique my team... our team.

As I sat in section 38 close to the pitch this evening, there were a number of times I felt the person on the ball or off the ball for that matter, messed something up. So, being the RSL supporter I am, began to critique the game with my friend. As an example, when Klien inexuseably sent the corner kick close to the end of the game all the way to the other touchline, I yelled towards him that the field hadn't grown, no need to send it sailing. To which I was attacked by other supports, long story short an arguement commenced.

Their arguement being I should be all positive and happy that we have a team here to support and that I don't have the right to critisize them. That I should be content with how they play because they are "doing the best they can". My arguement being as a supporter I have the right to critique or cheer any time or any how I'd like.

Part of being a fan, especially a supporter of a team that is struggling, is being able to critisize the on field play, or the substitution made by the coaches, etc. Or, being able to cheer them on and appluad them, even in the bad times. I guess my point is, don't we as fans have the right to support our team in anyway we choose?

Having an MLS team I can call my own is awesome, honestly I would have never guessed there'd be one in Utah. Now that we do, I'll grab on to them and be passionate about them critique or no critique.

Thoughts...

As long as you don't get vulgar or obscene and keep going to games, I don't care what the fans around me say about the team, opponent or officials (although I might lift the vulgarity when talking of MLS officialis).

I have been criticized in the past for being overly positive about our team and have always kept that positive slant... even during the goal drought last season... even during the winless streak...

I am still positive about the team... but that is the way I support the team... yes I get frustrated and angry and i voice that frustration... but the overall stance I take is that I am glad they are here and I will support them no matter what.

Just like the folks get irritated with my being overly positive... I get irritated with the overly negative. Those are the folks that find something to moan about no matter what.
but they have the right to be overly negative as much as my right to be overly positive.

Sometimes you have to have a pretty thick skin... because people will give you a hard time either way you choose to support them.

It boils down to one thing... It is up to you how you support the team... and you don't have to answer to any one about it!

DUECE...I agree with you, and I too am glad we have a team to call our own.

Speaking of vulgarity, that was one of the funny parts of the arguement with these people. About 20 minutes before it happened, they got irritated by RCB's chants that included the word "fatherless child" and "female private parts" (think cuss word here). These supports in question voiced there disapproval of the chants because kids were around. Well when we were having our arguement, all four of them ripped of some four letter words that begin with F. Pretty hypocritical.

Anyway, I can see that you two see that supporting your team doesn't have to be one way. Kudos to you.

We're fairly critical of several players (which shall go unnamed). We at least try to be creative with our critiques.

However, I do find people who constantly yell "(Insert name of player here), you SUCK!!!" over and over again to be really irritating.

Like, we all get the point already. No need to give me a damn headache over it.

Support the team your own way. You don't have to answer to anybody else.

I prefer to critique the team's performance on my own quietly and just send "positive energy" their way. But do what works for you.

Bottom line...**** everybody else and say what you want. Come sit down with us next match and you can be as vulgar and as loud and as rude as you want and you will be under the RCB umbrella. Sorry you had to put up with that **** in Section 38. That is the section reserved for *******s and drunks. Just make sure you find the guys in black and come sit by us. Then you can do it all without the fear of reprecussion.

Sounds good to me...however I just want to make it clear that I wasn't cussin' or yelling over and over that this person or that person sucks. Just like any other soccer fan, maybe not the people in question, I analyzed the game. Anyway. Not sure if I'll be in that section, where I usually sit more north (I was given the tickets by a friend). Anyway if you'd do me a huge favor and be as obnoxious as possible to the ignorant people in Section 38 rows 1 and 2 seats at 8,9, and 10 and give 'em one of these :fyou:

Any of that's gotta be better than the guy sitting behind me who's kinda a cross between JP Dellacamera and Dell Schanze (think the soccer knowledge of Dellacamera and the voice of SuperDell). He just WOULD NOT SHUT UP! I don't care to know every thought that's bouncing around in your skull, especially when it becomes painfully obvious that you're not paying enough attention to the game to know the difference between an offsides call and an actual foul. It actually WAS enough to give me a headache. I kept wondering if it was the same guy that kept calling Ballouchy "Mendy" last game. Sheesh.
