Fifa is to blame for last night's circus

Beckham said that teasing from Rooney had focused his mind on the free-kick. "Wazza said to me before the game that my free-kicks had been poor, and that's why we were laughing after I scored. I have been awful recently. I have not scored one for a long time and I haven't got many this season.

"I got a text from Roberto Carlos today which said 'Get one for me today' and I think that helped bring me luck.

I think it's safe to say neither team were angels in this game; the ref had as much a lack of discipline as the players.

The standard of refereeing has been a complete joke so far but last night was just in a class of it's own.

The ref set himself up for it by booking Van Bommel after 90 seconds and just couldn't keep the yellow card (and eventually red card) in his pocket at all.

When will FIFA act?

Here's my question:

If you know the ref is quick on the card....why keep playing the bruising style both were playing last night? There were bad tackles/studs up/hand balls galore last night.

and Boo to Holland for deciding, after Portugal kicked the ball out to aid one of their fallen players, to keep the possession of the ball after the restart.

Grass Hockey is fun to watch.

PS: I enjoyed watching Robin get the boot to the shoulder in the penalty box. maybe if he wouldn't flop every time he is even breathed on, he might have received the call.

Exactly. When I'm not watching the "beautiful game" I enjoy college hoops (not NBA though). Sometimes the referees let the players bang each other around a bit, but sometimes they call a tight game. Smart players will adjust their playing style accordingly.

side note: i was still entertained last night because I wasn't pulling for either team. It was really funny watching the ref go for his card after almost every call.
