Just my thoughts, I understand the need of personalizing the players but if they don't prefer the names Cletus and Delvin and any run of the mill Donut chain, then why should the supporters perpetuate them. Do what you will but I'll be rooting for D.J. in the pipes and Laser Luke and Mathis.

I see what you mean, but nicknames aren't necessarily disrespectful, they are often just endearing. If Kreamalmeyer doesn't like being called something or other, we'll call him something else. I don't see anything wrong with Krispy Kreamalmeyer; there is no reason to assume that he won't be amused by it and enjoy it. We assume he is okay with "Laser Luke" but who knows?? maybe his mother was killed by a Laser and it's a sensitive subject for him ( 🙄 ).. anyway if we can have good communication with the players then we can find out if any nicknames rub them the wrong way. For example, The Fridge might sound disrespectful, but Mr. Porter seemed to like it. I'm sure Dennis Rodman loved being called the Worm. Until we find out otherwise, I like any nickname (other than something obviously demeaning like "Punk-***** Kamler")

... this has nothing to do with the fact that I came up with the nickname Krispy Kreamalmeyer :D

It sounds like these questions about nicknames and what players would like their nicknames would be good questions for Jamie Watson to ask and have him put it in his next article(well maybe, maybe not in the article). Though Jamie could at least inquire for the fans. It's true, we don't want to rile up our own players against the supporters group. That wouldn't be a good idea!!!

GO ReAL!!!!! 😕

I don't think we have a problem with "Cleetus" but it never hurts to double-check.

I don't like the Krispy Kream thing--it has to do with emails deposited in my hotmail spam folder. Anybody know what I'm talking about there? I'm sure I'm not the only one to receive those.

I'd love to refer to DJ as "Divin' Delvin" after a great save, but I'm thinking he might not like that nickname. 🙂

I always thought that Mathis was "Cleatus" with an "a", since, well, he wears cleats, and that "Cletus" + "Cleats" = "Cleatus". Am I just making this all up?

We had a long discussion about that... somewhere. SoccerPrime listed several reputable sources that spell his nickname w/ two Es. And apparently it has nothing to do with cleats (which I admit was the association I made in the past....)

😎

I agree that, in general, the nick names shouldn't be offensive. And I agree we don't want to offend our "boys". So, has anyone got an e-mail address for Jamie Watson? That way we could just ask him.

It was in his last journal. He wants us to come up with questions to ask other players so this might be a good one to ask.
