Fate of WC depends on first game

Lose your first game at the World Cup then you are going home and if you win you move on. It's that simple.

I'm glad its been boiled down to that, but what isn't simple is accessing the link. 🙂

Is anyone else having problems? I seem to be able to access it.

Gardner's implication is that there's some cause and affect going one with winning or losing the first game. I don't buy it. I do not think it's losing the first game that causes a team to miss advancing. It's that a team that's not capable or not playing well enough to advance is highly likely to lose their first game. It may seem the same but the difference is important. The teams don't go into the first game even with who wins or loses determining the outcome. The teams all come into that first game at different levels of skills, tactics, and preperation. Those that don't produce or don't have the skills to do so are more likely to loose. The loss doesn't not mean they're more likely to loose in the 2nd or 3rd game.

In light of the importance of the first game, let's take a look at the Czechs.
