Gregg Berhalter has captained Energie Cottbus for the past 4 seasons and lead them back to the Bundesliga this season, but has announced to Yanks Abroad that he is leaving the team. Where he is headed has not been revealed, but he is staying in Germany.

Congrats to Greg on the accomplishment.

Is his contract up? Just curious why he'd be leaving. I can say he'd be very welcome in the MLS.

This was one of the more confusing moves I have ever seen. Can anyone help me understand this. This wasn't even a lateral move. He was going to be in the Bundesliga and he moved to a team that finished at the bottom of the second division. Maybe Energie Cuttbus didn't want him anymore but he played such an important part in the promotion...I don't know I was left frustrated and confused when I heard about this move. Somebody please help me understand it!

Some of it may be money. SOme of it may be playing time. I hate to say it but he's no spring chicken. Maybe he feels himself his days in the Bundeliga are over.

Time to bring his trade to MLS. The league is going to get stronger once the Keller's and Reyna's of the world bring their knowledge and experience back across the pond to MLS.
