Ellinger on 1280 the Zone 5/9/06

Just a couple of notes I thought I would pass on about Ellinger's interview on 1280 this morning:
  1. Ellinger is funny and a nice guy - I remember why I like him as person.
  2. His assessment of the Crew game was that RSL just had a couple of breakdowns. Fine. But he didn't seem to know how to stop them.
  3. He was talking about putting Mehdi in the middle. Well duh. The problem is that he was talking about pusing Talley up to DS's spot???????
  4. RSL will play a 442 against the Galaxy.
  5. And the BOMBSHELL: if Carey Talley moves up then Nick B. would play center back. Yep, he said that. Nick B. would be starting center back. I think I am going to puke just thinking about it.

What is wrong with playing people in their positions?!!!!!!!!! Has Talley played there before? Please someone say he has. Still - Nick B. as a center back with the big boys.

Yes, Talley has played there before...in fact, Dallas fans would probebly tell you this is his best position...

The Besagno thing has been mentioned a bit on the boards...he grew an inch and is 20 lbs bigger than last year, and has been playing the center back almost exclusively.

Actually Nik Besagno has been playing center back in both of the reserve matches that I saw. He was solid and actually reminded me of Eddie Pope in his mannerisms and style of play. I think while your reservations are understandable, you may be pleasantly surprized.

He is bigger this season and is quite a solid defender.

I'm more worried about his mental maturity than his physical prowess. I think that he was handling himself just fine last year physically and he was smaller then. I think every move right now is just making me way too nervous.

Nik looks good. I still say throw the whole reserve team in. Maybe keep Medhi tho, he is the only shining star from the first team if you ask me. Since I know how you all value my very knowledgeable opinion.

No dispute here with Mehdi. Mehdi is going to be a big thing in this league. I just hope we put him to the best us possible.

We're on the road, playing on grass.

What difference is it going to make if Besagno plays?
