If you want to compare apples to apples, for New England's home opener last Sunday:
Attendance: 11,762, Weather: Sunny and 62 degrees
Does someone out there at least have a really lame excuse?

i wasn't in usa when the delta centre was built but i remember reading in the match program that Checketts said, LHM is it that owns the delta centre? requested public money to improve the infrastructure around it... as rsl are doing with the sss.

Anyone who was in utah at that time... was there this much fuss over giving up funds for the delta centre infrastructure? if not why now?

I think that some people in the general public likely felt if the Jazz had to have a new arena that they should pay for the entire thing themselves, but their voice was given very little notice in the papers and certainly no paper dared suggest the public should be able to vote on the issue or was demanding Larry Miller fully disclose all of his financial records. Had the papers all treated the Jazz situation the same as RSL and riled up the uninformed the way there are trying to do now, the Jazz would possibly be long gone with a CBA team playing in the old run down Salt Palace.

Now what in the world does this have to do with anything? Where the heck do they want them to play? Complete nonsense... I say move the stadium back to SLC...screw Sandy. LOL

Okay, so I noticed a migraine coming on this evening and because I'm trying to nuke it before it happens, I'll most likely be up all night staring at the ceiling (but not with a headache, just full o' Excedrin Migraine and jumpy as hell). So I might as well write down the letter to the editor I've got rolling around in my head. I can't use it, as I wrote one to the Trib a couple of days ago (and another one a couple of weeks ago to the News). So if anyone wants, copy and paste--but be sure to reply and claim it first so we don't look like we're amateurs at this:

I attended the Real Salt Lake vs. LA Galaxy game last Saturday, and was pleasantly surprised to see an ad for one of Larry Miller's car dealerships up on the jumbotron. So, to the Salt Lake County council members, Utah Taxpayer Association flacks and Salt Lake Tribune reporters who are falling over themselves trying to preserve Mr. Miller's monopoly on entertainment in the Salt Lake Valley, maybe you ought to get Larry's opinion beforehand. You might find he welcomes the competition. At the very least, it's helping him sell more cars.

or . Or both. Both is good.

And Denver had less than 8000. When's the 4th of July again? Oh yeah. Nice that they've got that to pad their numbers, or they'd be the Tulsa Rapids. Are there rivers near Tulsa?

I think there needs to be more introspection, and less obsessing over other people. The newspapers will write what they will. It has NOTHING to do with LHM. He's a nice scapegoat, but I think his actually participation in this debate has basically been none.

If RSL wants this stadium, they should begin by firing both Dean Howes and Love Communications who have bungled this from the start.

SLCo did exactly what you'd expect. They haven't rolled over.

Perhaps you saw in today's paper Tom Love (spokesperson) say they won't continue 'negotiations' with the county until the county comes to them ready to talk serious.

Real nice.

FIRE HOWES.

Maybe RSL has found a city with stupider taxpayers. Real Rochester? Real Seattle? People in Seattle give bazillionaire Paul Allen a bunch of tax money. They can't be very smart.

I respectfully disagree. Someone at LHM has made a few phone calls, or at least done something sub rosa to get this ball rolling. I don't want to find conspiracies under every bush, but to think that we're getting a perfect storm of opposition on every front is some sort of coincidence denies the kind of clout Larry wields in this community.

And think about it: At the moment, he's saddled with an underperforming NBA team, a newly-acquired nearly bankrupt minor league baseball team, and a new, multi-million-dollar racing park. I would bet dollars to donuts most if not all of those ventures are being subsidized by his other profitable businesses. The last thing he needs is a competitor that draws as well as his best team. Any wonder the Jazz are slashing prices, or that, by my count, they gave away at least ten season tickets at their last home game? In the sports world, Larry's in a corner, and therefore dangerous.

So yeah, maybe we shouldn't bait the bear. But denying the bear's at least part of the problem isn't realistic, either.

Just discussed this with my dad this morning and came up with two logical reasons against playing at RES against Real Madrid (or the Italian team, if RM finishes 3rd) - wonder if the idiots in Salt Lake County have considered these:

First - How hot is it in August? How do they expect to transplant sod over field turf then? It was hard enough keeping it watered and everything for a June WCQ!

Second - When does U of U start football practice? Isn't it at least 3 weeks before their first game? That would be about August 12. Do you think they want sod on their turf while practicing?
