Relationship w/ Real Madrid

On Nov. 9th approximately 20 members of Real Salt Lake’s first official supporter’s club, the Loyalists, met with Trey Fitz-Gerald, the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications for RSL. He discussed upcoming events and decisions about the team and answered Loyalists’ questions for about 45 minutes. Here is a summary of what he discussed. For the complete article, please go to www.TheLoyalists.com where the article will be available soon.

Fitz-Gerald reiterated that the club is working on a relationship with Real Madrid. He added that Dave Checketts has been conducting close discussions with Madrid since the Oct. 9th event, working more on the details. However, he refused to go into detail, stating that he would prefer to defer to Dave Checketts on that subject.
He did say that Salt Lake City fans will hopefully see Real Madrid in town within the next few years. One possibility might be to see them in town around the time the new stadium is opened. He also stated that some possibilities for the relationship might include spring training in Madrid and some connections for player development.

What to get from any RM connection

Beyond training, competition and players there are areas of mutual benifit with Real Madrid:
The following soccer cities have similar altitude (over 5000ft) climate (dry continental) Latitude (35 to 45 degrees North) Salt Lake, Reno, Denver, Madrid Spain, Ankara Turkey, Tehran Iran, Taskent Uzbekistan and Yerevan Armenia (very Utah like). So they have similar conditions for play, training, grass growing, shadows on the field and similar technical considerations, problems and opportunities. These areas are where connections can help everybody with shared solutions.
Who has soccer, travel or personel connections to any of these places?

Back when Hugo Sanchez was somersaulting around the Bernabeu, I was an illegal alien in Madrid.

Madrid's elevation = 1909 feet or 2254, according to wunderground.com

But there are mountains to the north that are a lot higher.

Both places are absolutely delightful, although for entirely different reasons.

Our basketball team & ice hockey team could beat their basketball team & ice hockey team.

Based on the result in the Barcelona match, maybe our soccer team could beat their soccer team. Now that we have a sub.

No need for a sub to beat Real. Based on their performance against Barca, we could have been Real with only 5 men on the pitch.
