When my mother was pregnant with me they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later they discovered that I had reabsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

Other than Brown at 80k and Nik (I may never see the pitch at MLS level) Besagno at 60K, none of our #s gave me heartburn.

Don't forget we're still paying part of Mathis' salary...

Since nerds like me can't resist crunching numbers.....here's each team ranked in order of highest to lowest total salary. Yes, this includes G:A salaries and no, I'm not going to separate them out.
Team Base Salary Guaranteed Salary CHV $2,711,783 $3,604,403 LAG $2,575,560 $2,771,685 KCW $2,329,941 $2,583,423 DCU $2,058,775 $2,392,775 RSL $2,035,509 $2,262,468 FCD $1,944,448 $2,200,098 CHI $1,919,292 $2,172,792 COL $1,895,400 $2,109,550 HOU $1,815,913 $1,898,163 NER $1,666,830 $1,739,246 NYR $1,660,821 $1,856,779 CLB $1,655,937 $1,799,362 Here's my "bang for your buck" calculation - this is a raw measure of how much success each team is having given how much they're paying. Obviously at this point in the season it doesn't mean much, but we might want to revisit this later. The following numbers are dollars per point. FCD $220,009.80/point DCU $239,277.50/point KCW $287,047.00/point HOU $316,360.50/point NER $434,811.50/point CLB $449,840.50/point COL $527,387.50/point NYR $618,926.33/point LAG $692,921.25/point CHI $1,086,396.00/point CHV $1,201,467.67/point RSL $2,262,468.00/point

Add in Mathis' salary portion that we are covering and that number rises to roughly $2.5 mil per point. Disgusting. Simply disgusting.
⚽ Geoff ----------------------- REGULATORS! Mount up! The trip that convinced me to get off acid for ever was that game, Chivas 5-1 RSL. Chivas 3-0 RSL was just a flashback...

This may be a question that reveals my ignorance, but how in the world can some of these guys survive on $11,000 dollars? Especially living in places like LA?

Actually, a lot players who don't make a decent living wage moonlight as paid trainers for youth soccer teams. They make good money doing it - up to $100 per training session. And you have to remember their salary isn't for a year's worth of work. In the offseason a lot of the younger players (in most cases the ones making the league minimum) return home to live with family, reducing their living expenses, and they also get jobs. Also they continue to have medical insurance through their team, and when you really look at it, it takes a surprisingly small salary to live when you're single and your medical coverage is taken care of.

Back in the 90's, supposedly, a player retired because he was going to be traded. The player's wife made a lot more money selling real estate than he did playing soccer, and would not have made as much in the city where his new club was going to be; so he quit.
I don't remember who it was, though.
