MLS: Week 1 [R]

I'm not sure if anyone else caught this game. I watched it while at the gym. I thought it was a good game. The Fire dominated the first 30. Dallas was lucky to draw even. They hadn't don't much to deserve a goal before that. Rolfe while absent for a stretch really wasn't contained by FCD. But in the end Dallas won thanks to a couple goals in the 2nd half. But they deserved it. They owned Justin Mapp (IIRC he name was mentioned twice in the first 60 minutes) and really took over a lot of play after their first goal.

And Maisonove, wherever you are, thank you for taking $5k from WHINE-alda! 🙂

I did agree with Wynalda though about ROB. While Ronnie needs to mix it up, overally he needs to play wide. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised to see Kenny Cooper starting within a few games. He's strong and tall and would be well suited to take advantage of ROB's service.

FCD 3
Fire 2

Scoring:
CHI -- Chad Barrett 1 (unassisted) 12
DAL -- Arturo Alvarez 1 (Carlos Ruiz 1) 31
CHI -- Chris Rolfe 1 (Ivan Guerrero 1) 54
DAL -- Roberto Mina 1 (unassisted) 66
DAL -- Kenny Cooper 1 (Bobby Rhine 1, Ronnie O'Brien 1) 70

Discipline:
DAL -- Clarence Goodson (caution; Tackle from Behind) 51
CHI -- Jim Curtin (caution; Tackle from Behind) 61

I fell asleep at halftime, but I thought the first 30-35 mins were pretty entertaining. Chicago was knocking the ball around really well for the first game of the season, at any rate.

Nope. Just extraordinarily tired and brain-dead.

Let's make this a "MLS: Week 1 [R]" Thread.

1. Nice of FC Dallas fans to show up "on time." the stadium looked empty for the first third, glad the fans showed up...that match was a fun match to watch. We need points tomorrow (tonight) I don't see us getting points in Dallas next week. <subject to change based on RSL's chivas performance.>

2. what was that excuse for a field that KC was playing on and I'll be curious to see how many were in KC. for a team that supposed to suck and have sucky attendence, the looked pretty good for both.

3. Rusty, How I (don't) miss thee!

4. I saw Herc's soccer career pass before his eyes tonight. The look when he got up was priceless. It was a "How in the hell did I keep from breaking a leg, neck, arm while flipping over the side sign?" look.

5. Bruce...Arena....captain charisma, right? ()

6. It took Ruiz 20 minutes into the second half before he took his first dive in the penalty box.

7. Heather Mitts: Still fine

8. Brandi Chastine (whatever her name is): I've only been around the sport for a year and I'm convinced that after hearing her talk about soccer, I could probably sound more inteligent and interested in the sport than she did. Holy crap. (side note: watching the EPL this morning before the first kick, no sideline reporters talking to coaches.....)

9. IN my initial kit review: http://fuegote.blogspot.com/2006/01/...it-review.html
I stated that KC's kits weren't so great and that FC Dallas' kit was pretty bad but not as bad as KCs...

I take that back. What was with that kit. The red cape material was a different red than the hoop and that wouldn't be so bad but the hoop and cape were connected?!?!?

Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

KC 3 Crew 1

I thought the scoreline was a bit flatter for Crew. They had their moments but they have a lot of work to do. Rusty looked out of sorts. But I think the Crew's biggest problem was not having Simon Elliot.

Also, I hope Jewsbury has a better year this year. He slumped a bit last year. Here's to him knocking in 7 or so goals again.

Scoring:
KC -- Davy Arnaud 1 (Matt Groenwald 1) 21
KC -- Jack Jewsbury 1 (unassisted) 25
CLB -- Kei Kamara 1 (Eddie Gaven 1) 33
KC -- Eddie Johnson 1 (Scott Sealy 1, Kerry Zavagnin 1) 61
Discipline:
KC -- Shavar Thomas (caution; Reckless Foul) 58
KC -- Eddie Johnson (caution; Game Disrepute) 61
CLB -- Rusty Pierce (caution; Reckless Foul) 64
