I would love to... but I am way out of cycling shape right now. Post World Cup I should be able to do alright.

He's here, he's there, he's every gosh-darned where

I don't know if he's still in town or not.

But Utah Blitzz midfielder/marketing rep Shawn Cassella is an avid cyclist.

I've read the same about the Tooele road rides. I'd beleive it. Anyone go around Bear Lake before? That seems like it would make doe a nice ride.

And don't assume I'm in any decent sapre, either. Anyway, my philosophy for riding with others is that it's about getting out and having fun and doesn't need to be about training and pushing things too hard. Plus, even when everyone's in shape everyone's got their own natural cadence.

I've ridden on roads by Bear Lake before, but not all the way around it.

It's very pretty up there & Idaho is very close for Vital Supplies.

I am too lazy to look this up, but I thought that the road on the east side of the lake is not paved? Is that right?

Been all the around the lake... yes it is all paved. However, there is no cover of any kind on the east side of the lake. You bake out there unless you plan your trip just right.

If the east side of the lake is paved, that is very recent. I grew up there. There used to be a race that started in Logan, went up Logan Canyon to Bear Lake, followed US89 to Ovid and then from there over to Preston before returning to Logan.

Unfortunately, Bear Lake Raspberries are no more. Land sales to developers and diseased plants have wiped everything out. La Beu's still sells shakes, but it just isn't the same.

Hopefully the Hildt's will start over.

This talk of doing the Logan - Bear Lake - Preston loop just adds to my theory that some folks idea of "not being in shape" is still higher than my idea of "being in shape". A century is bad enough but doing it with big flippin' hills to go up? Pure craziness. 🙂

It was paved when I rode it in 1995 (or was it 1994). Does that qualify as recent?

There still a race called LoToJa. If you break that down it to LOgan TO JAckson Hole. At one point in my life I had ambitions to ride in that race. However, sanity has finally take hold of my brain.

Seems like some sort of RSL cycling club is in order...
