So, the last computer I ever purchased was a Totally Awesome computer in 1999 and it still works great today.

Like I said, his products and service have always been phenomenal. I like to build computers myself, but I found that I couldn't build the same quality computers for the same cost Totally Awesome was able to produce (with legal versions of software). So instead of building computers for people, I just told them what they basically needed and suggested they go buy from TAC. I'm glad to hear that PC Laptops will be taking over that market space here in Utah, because it's a great gig, and a valuable service to local patrons, in my opinion - even if we have to put up with wacky marketing.

I hope they throw the book at the guy.

I got really poor customer service from them last year when we took our computer in to get some work done on it. Maybe though it was just the store here in Ogden that had idiots working there.

Too bad really, the guy had a successful business and a wealthy life ahead but he had to ruin it all due to a lack of humility.

1) For my opinions on this I will refer you to posts #5 and #7 in this thread.

2) This is very true.

i actually have a friend who worked at the better business bureau for many years that had a lot, or TON of negative stuff to say about hi and his business BEFORE this all happened. Basically he was dealing with humilty issues and treater people like he was way better than them attitude for years. My friend said he had quite a rap sheet at the bureau or at least his business did, and he eventually blamed the bureau saying they were trying to frame him and treat him unfairly, then she topped being part of the bureau. it sounds awfully familiar with this, and all of this was told to me at least a year ago. my friend also said he staged some events to try to embarrass some of the employees over there and was always threatening to call the cops on people.

based on that info alone and some of the stuff that had been reported to the bureau and he failed to deal with or acknowledge, i bought my computer elsewhere. i just think all this going on rings a bell with everything she told me, and so i think he is an annoying idiot. maybe the media knows a lot more of what has gone on with this guy than you think, hence the reason for what you believe to be them over reacting?

on another note, did any of you guys ever see his little infomercials like at 2 in the morning when he first opened shop? they were more like missionary efforts and a "let the area know i am mormon so buy from me" effort than an actual we have the best computers commercial. they were very weird.

When has the media not reported things that they knew about? I kind of doubt that this is the reason the media "had it out for him". He was an easy target, and it made for good (read ratings) TV/News.

I remember seeing those commercials early in the morning, and was actually impressed. Although, in talking with some of my friends afterward, they came away with opinions much like yours. I guess it's just a different perspective.
