RSL vs. DC preseason 2/17 [R]

3-1, RSL leading so far.
Cunningham with hattrick
Gomez with a goal.

That's gotta smart some. Go Cunningham! I can't wait to see Andy and Mehdi feeding him all season. I hope we actually can finish at least in the middle of the pack this year. Didn't we have a pretty good preseason last year?

Back in the 90's, I forget which year. 97, I think.

All the MLS teams went to Florida and they had a Preseason Tournament.

The San Jose Clash won. Then that year, they started or continued their 4-year-streak of not making the playoffs.

When asked how DC "allowed" 3 goals by RSL, a DC fan responded by describing one of Jeff's goals as a rocket & unstoppable.
🙂

Game over. RSL WINS 3-1

There was a debate last year about whether the preseason "mattered" or not. This year I'm jumping into "preseason is no indication of regular season" camp.

I couldn't agree more that the preseason doesn't mean a thing, but it is certainly nice to be winning these games rather than losing these games.

I do think that scoring 4 goals in 2 games by Cunningham is a pretty good indication of how he personally will play in regular season. The big question is how will they play as a team. Once the final cuts are made I'm sure more effort into forming continuity will begin. Plus, how is our back line doing?

This is still exciting!

There are no actual points/values for these preseason wins, but I know that emotionally/mentallly they are very important (much more so, because of the dismal season we had last year).

Just imagine if we were 1-4 at this stage - the coach, the players, the fans would all be trying to tell ourselves that it doesn't matter, "it's just preseason" but deep down ALL of us would have doubts and worries. We still have them now, but at least they aren't exacerbated.

EDIT - Conversely, had we come off a championship year and lost ALL the preseason games. I don't think anyone would be too worried (just chalked up to vetting the squad/positions). It matters to us, because where we are coming from.
