RSL stadium news!

http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635168888,00.html

Funding is in place for the state-of-the-art Real Salt Lake soccer stadium, and construction should begin in the next couple of months.
Dean Howes, president of Real Salt Lake, wouldn't elaborate on where the money is coming from for the 25,000-seat stadium, estimated at roughly $65 million, but said financing is secure thanks to numerous private equity partners.

...

(RSL) was also ranked the highest in TV viewership in MLS history.

...

The stadium, Howes said, is expected to be finished by 2008.

2008?? *grumble* Okay, I knew middle-of-2007 was a pipe dream, but it still stinks to think of two more seasons in the old RES.

So does this mean that they won't be asking for ANY public money?? Or do they just mean they have the rest of the money under control? Does this mean we have sponsors? What will they name the stadium? Okay, I'm getting a little too excited. Maybe I should actually go read the article.

In local news, this was found after the announcement that the stadium funding was in place.

Hmmmmm....

NO public money? I find that really hard to believe, unless...Real decided that having Sandy build that 20-25 million dollar parking garage would save ReAL money and space for parking.

Anyone know how large the parking garage is supposed to be? Without parking around the stadium (but with parking still close) that leaves more room for the retail/hotel/playing fields.

Also, with a 2 year build, you would assume they are doing way more than just putting up Crew Stadium (sorry Columbus)...

Well, if this is truly a no public money deal, the ownership gets HUGE props... 🕺

Good job everyone involved.

Metro stadium look more like 2008 than 2007.

They've been working on it for 10 years.

Great pic montgjules!

I'm curious to know more details on the overall stadium plan, especially the private-development side of it. I'm not saying they can't make money off of it but it seems like a lot of money to pony up off a stadium. How much private development that isn't the stadium could be done w/out it? Would it be worth that much less w/out the stadium there? Or does the private development side of it help them build on land they wouldn't get to play with if it wasn't for the stadium? Ya know, all sorts of questions like that.
