The team's latest numbers say the complex will cost about $135-$145 million. Of that, Real's owners are asking for $45 million in public funding. That would buy the land and provide roads, sidewalks and utilities. Salt Lake County would own the land and lease it to the team. Real would finance the buildings with private capital.
This is similar to the way Salt Lake City helped Larry H. Miller build the Delta Center. The city redevelopment agency kicked in about $27 million to buy the land and provide infrastructure; Miller did the rest.

I hope this works out now without the RDA money.

Quick...someone do the math for the following.

In the early 80's SLC paid $27 million for the land and infrastructure for the Delta Center. What is that in today's dollars? I have a feeling it is pretty close to the $45 million ReAL is requesting.

edit...I looked myself...20 years at 3.5% inflation...the $27million works out to over $55 million. So the $45 million is a bargain.

Did you figure the inflation rate on top of that? 🙂

Real Salt Lake plans to break ground on the 20,000-seat stadium within the year.
What progressive planning! So, sometime between now and 300+ days from now? Sounds like they've got everything under control. Does anyone else remember Uncle Dave saying it will be ready by July 4th 2007? And then he called the planner out and asked him "right?" - like the poor bastard had any control over that. This whole thing is starting to feel weird.

You think it's weird now?

Just wait until RSL inks its deal with Larry Miller.

They would have to get over a bit of personal animosity first.

Like the fact that Larry's offices overlook the stadium site...that makes me laugh every time I remember it.
