Looks like our buddy Bramble is at it again.

Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, also has made it clear he does not want state money going toward the stadium. Bramble is sponsoring a redevelopment agency bill that bans recreational facilities from using property tax dollars to pay for costs.

Hmmm... First RDA money, now property tax.
I suppose his next target will be banning Checketts from using his own money!

BTW where were all these opponents to using state money in 2000 when all those Olympic things were being built?
Also where were they all when the Larry Man wanted the Delta Center?
Just curious!

I'd really like to go to a Jazz game and walk up to Bramble, or Stephenson, or Jerman, and ask them why they're attending something in a tax-supported facility (and who's paying for their tickets, while I'm at it). Hypocrisy everywhere you look. Especially if you're looking north up State Street.

now that there is a funding mechanism applicable across SL County, and people are getting jittery over the rapidly increasing price tag of the "soccer city" that is spiralling out of control,

It's time to move the whole project back downtown

and build the damned stadium once and for all for much less than the ridiculously inflated numbers we're seeing now.

It can be done in the best place, for a reasonable cost and more importantly, it can be done ON TIME!

But the numbers now include more than just the stadium. So the cost of the project has increased, not necessarily the stadium.

To be frank, I can understand the backlash against certain things. Like the use of TIFF zones to fund private projects. I took it that Bramble's initial opposition was in regards RDA money being used for it. RDA seems like it's in the same ball park as TIFF.

But at what point does it become the state dictating to communities how they may and may not develop? What if Sandy proposed a 1% sales tax to help fund the project? Would Bramble then be threatening to introduce legistlation that controled how cities or counties spent their sales tax.

Like others mentioned, why is this an issue now but not for other projects during the last decade?

So what would this include? Would it prevent RDA from being used to create a new city park? What about a city building a new municipal swimming pool with the money? And if such legistlation gets too specifc, what prevents Sandy from using that money to put in a huge new city park with some $1 99 year lease agreement that allows for the stadium and the rest of the project to be built on the land in exchange for the them maintaining and developing some fields for youth soccer that just happen to make for nice training facilities.

Before his election in 2000, he served on the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, chaired the Provo Airport Board and was commissioner of the Provo Housing Authority.

Any good sources to show his votes on bills and proposed bills since he came into office 2000? For example, he opposed the seat belt law.
