Sounds like from Babelfish, that Alajuelense would trade Marin for Brenes.
Interesting.

Wasn't Brenes going to bolt for Costa Rica anyway?

Yeah but Marin is supposedly the captain of the Costa Rican national team. So I would think Brenes was not as valued a player as Marin.
I also think Brenes used to play for Alajuelense before he came to MLS and the Metrostars.

I might have seen Marin play twice in person (Gold Cup '98; WCQ '97); but I would have to check on that.

Anyone who can survive Steve Sampson's coaching & live to tell about it, I'm in favor of.

Ellinger told me this might take place at the Expansion Draft.

I couldn't remember the guy's name and when I asked FO people they stonewalled me. Soon I was even questioning myself if it was the C.R. captain that Ellinger was talking about. Glad that I'm not losing my mind, just my memory.

Reppage.

Is it just me, or does he look like a cross between Opie and the Pillsbury Dough Boy? Every time I see that man on a sideline, I want to cringe...

And they made fun of Ellingers picks at the SuperDraft....geez did they see what Sampson did to Sigi's team? Man, do they want to be #12 in the league?

I'm with you on the Sampson thing, but have the following to offer...I actually consider Sigi to be an average judge of talent but an above average tactician. I think the Gals actaully overachieved under Sigi considering their talent. As I mentioned on another board, I'm not suprised by the U-20s success considering that Sigi was in control of the tactics while Dir, whom I think may be the best judge of talent in the American game, was helping evaluate the players.

Sampson, in my opinion, is only average in both facets. That explains why the Gals tanked down the stretch. He has realized they needed a shake-up, and is doing so, but it sure looks like panic rather than plan.
(Sampson is also an arrogant prick for whom players do not like to play...trust me on this, I've worked with him as a coach...I just do not anticipate the Gals situation getting better anytime soon)...

Of course, the jury is still out on Ellinger. By reputation, he is an average tacticion with above-average motivating skills. As a judge of talent? Well, we'll have to see how his ... ahem ... unique choices in the draft pan out. 😉
