Brian McBride

"We're sitting down with him in the first or second week in January to make sure we keep him here. He's a terrific player and the fans absolutely adore him. He's a manager's dream, he trains like a true professional and when he play he gives everything.

"If you saw the state of him when he came off the pitch on Wednesday night, it looked like he's been in a bar brawl, he had cuts a bruises everywhere. But that's the way he plays. His and Heidar Helguson are a formidable pairing at the minute; they make it difficult for defenders.

"He doesn't really like the limelight, he's a family man and he loves his football. He's fantastic in the dressing room with the rest of the guys. I think he knows how much he's appreciated at this club and he just gets on with his job.

"We've got to make sure that we keep him here for longer. I remember playing against Brian when he was here on loan at Preston, when we were in the First Division. I saw him a few times when he was at Everton and I always liked the way he played. I knew what he'd bring to our team and he hasn't disappointed us."

I've never been a huge McBride fan. But he gave up a lot financially and in development of his game in leaving Europe to come back to the MLS when it started in 1996. It's great to see him doing well and getting some props on the other side of the pond before his career is over. He deserves the recognition.
