SL County says no to soccer bond vote this year

Some good nuggets of gold in there, like where several Councilman say that RSL won't make it because MLS didn't work in Florida.

Idiots.

The maps at the bottom are nice though.

The last paragraph, in the article, speaks volumes about the intent of the councilman's remarks.
It does not sound at all like he is concerned about how much it will cost the taxpayers but...
Quote:
Councilman David Wilde, who represents Murray and expects to be lobbied by city officials eager to land the stadium
Quote:
It's going to take some pretty persuasive arguing to get me to vote for it
It sounds to me like he is basically saying "what is in it for me?" and "My vote is going to be very expensive... "
That is my interpretation of those statements...

The statement by County Councilman Mark Crockett about Florida's lack of success, and further pinning that failure on latino support is just plain stupid and it shows exactly how un-educated he is!

I suppose the success of soccer in the rest of the entire world, outside of south america and mexico, is due completely to the credit of the local latino support in... say... Germany and England, which are very well known for their large latino population... 🙄

That statement is just plain appalling and I will not be surprized at all if that statement, alone, comes back to haunt ol' boy come election time!

😉

Well yeah, they're idiots, but it also sounds like they have a lot of expensive things comming up and don't want to commit themselves to this, at this time. What I'm reading is that they just want to get past these other expensive projects, get them out of the way, then they'll look into this more closely. Unless, the people really come out and support it, then they would certainly change their minds and say they were supportive all along. :p

I realize that Triple Hurricane Boy is busy these days. But a letter to the Trib from a guy in Florida would impress them & could point out some vital differences:

-Tampa = no owner

-Miami = Idiot owner

-RSL = Owner with a track record of a couple of decades of success.

-Tampa = beisbol-loving Cubans & Puerto Ricans who won't even watch the Devil Rays. (I don't think that the players' wives & girlfriends go to Devil Rays games.)

-Miami = baseball-loving Cubans, Puerto Ricans & some Nicaraguans and a front office that refused to work with local soccer groups.

-RSL = futbol-loving Mexicans, some Central Americans, Brazilians & Argentineans. Tri fans may show up to support Goats 2.0. But at least they will show up. RSL is already working with local soccer groups & may have a guy (Sergio Flores?) who is an Alumni of the local ethnic leagues on the payroll already.

That article made me laugh yesterday.

If the U of U gymnastics team can average 10,000 fans a meet for 20 years, I'm pretty sure RSL is going to be okay, despite the revelations from the I'm-Bitter-Because-I-Don't-Get-Free-Gas-Anymore Brigade.

Good point, Clarette.

If they approve the stadium, I promise to share my hot dogs & Polygamy Porter at tailgate parties with the County Council.

This is a bit off topic.

But I think that The Cookie Jar (Mrs Fields' Field) should be in Murray. There's more room for parking lots for our tailgate parties in Murray.

Hurricane-Cubed reporting for duty. 🙂
I've been saying this on BS and here since it was posted on Saturday. These SL County clowns are clueless. Comparing the chances of SLC to Florida makes no sense whatsoever. Besides the obvious non-comparisions, the reasons for Tampa/Miami failure had more to do with off the field problems than attendance.

Anyway, good post Jose, I may want to write them after all...
