I don't understand Brad Rock's point. So you have to win everything to have a "wildly successfull" season?

RSL's first season has been a huge success. Brad Rock is just wrong on that.

In one of the pictures in that full page ad that Brad Rock refers to, you could see the Loyalists banner and a couple of Cavaliers.

👍

I sent him an e-mail, explaining that the "Wildly Successful" referrs to attendance, and fun for those who attended.

I said it better than that, but didn't save it, so you get the Readers Digest Condensed Version.

By no means am I a Brad Rock apologist-- I'm still mad about his columns at the start of the season. He's a sports bigot, an anti-soccerist, a smug sports traditionalist. I'd like to see him last an hour on the pitch.

That being said, I raised BOTH eyebrows when I read the "wildly successful season" hype on the back of the sports section. When everything you say is hyperbole, nothing you say means anything. Better to be realistic and honest. I don't think they teach that in advertising 101, however.

RSL had a great opening season in many areas-- community interest, attendance, fan support, the pageantry of the game, press coverage, player involvement in the community, etc. But on the pitch it was dismal more often than not, and certainly not "wildly successful". And that is a lasting impression for many, though not the sum total of the season.
