Because of the nature of their organization, their knee- jerk reaction will always be negative for projects like ours.
I do think it's significant that they spent so much time talking about RDA's when we all know those are out of the picture. They don't seem to have much ammunition. I think they wanted to prove their relevance by weighing in on a current issue, but they don't have very much to say about it.

It was kind of funny, because when I was having an e-mail war with that guy, I asked him why he wasn't going after the mayors of the cities who are willing to supposedly "subsidize" the stadium instead of putting words in Dave Checketts' mouth, and he didn't really have any reply to that.

Wow, that anecdotal "evidence" really convinced me. :whistling:
How's this for some anecdotal evidence: I spent $400 last year on two season tickets, $100 on a jersey, and about $6-10 per game on food. I was not, nor would I ever have been, in the habit of hopping on a jet to California to watch the footy. What would that money have paid for otherwise? My book and CD addiction. But since that's fueled mostly through Amazon (and the Utah "use tax" is voluntary), that $40 or so in sales tax I spent was "new" tax money. As I understand it, the sports opportunity zone idea basically allows Checketts & Co. to recoup the money they put down to build the stadium by keeping what would be sales tax money until an agreed-upon number is reached. Now, not all that money will be "new," but taxes aren't the zero-sum game the anti-tax forces claim it to be.

I'd like someone to insert a large microscope up his ... (please feel free to insert whichever word feels more appropriate for you - I'll go with ... erm ... poop escape .. Anyway I would love to see what he has hiding in his closet, I detest these, attention needing, insecure, arrogant, unthoughful, short-sighted, self appointed public saviours who insist that we listen to them because they have something to say. Shut up, really just shut up. If you are going to present an arguement then present all sides and if you are incapable of doing so then that just proves you shouldn't be a public figure impersonating someone with ALL of the publics interests at heart.
I tell you what if there is no economic benefit from sporting events lets give back the money from the Olympics, oh yeah, yeah also close down all of the sports venues in the world and see if the local cities notice the revenue difference in employment and other obvious areas that a school child could see. I hate even wasting breath on this walking poop. This is my suggestion for the 'learned' fellow ... GO FORTH AND MULITPLY YOU UNELECTED POMPOUS POOP, YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR THIS TAXPAYER AND UNTIL WE ALL SAY YOU DO DON'T ASSUME THAT YOU DO SPEAK FOR EVERYONE, BECAUSE I WOULD GUESS THERE ARE AT LEAST 20,000 UTAHNS WHO DISAGREE WITH YOUR BITTER NEEDINESS. I believe the Utah Taxpayers Association is made up of primarily large land holders and apartment complex owners who don't want to pay property taxes.

The Utah Taxpayers Association also represents those of us who do not want to move back to California because our employers got sick of paying California-level tax rates.
When Larry H Miller buys the Twins & moves them here, we are going to here a whole lot about "non economic benefits" when he get a couple of hundred million to build a new stadium for them. And to upgrade his racetrack in Tooele for Nextel Cup racing.

Whomever they represent, they could clearly benefit from actually figuring out what the other side's actual argument is before trying to "deconstruct" it.

Quote:
The Twins already got sold to an ownership group committed to the Twin Cities. The Utah Taxpayers Association is not the all encompassing organization they claim to be. It is mostly just Sen. Howard Stephenson and a few cronies. __________________

The Utah Taxpayers Association have made their opposition to any Real Stadium known with FLAME grade statements on their web site. Know thine enemy! But fight them fairly, with facts, love and free tickets.
The Tribune got co-opted again by Arlyn Bradshaw in the Opinion section (Oct 18) with a very pro SLC position. Not mentioned was the fact that he is the Executive Director of the Utah Democratic Party. Previously he has worked his way up in the Democratic party and was active in Student Politicts (Student Association and Young Democrats) at the U of U. Our favorite mayor (Rocky A) must be a poet and musician from his latest performance at a political rally. The third verse about Real's defection must have been in jest?
