Think big, think MaracanΓ£:
Wouldn't that be awesome; 200,000 people at a Real Salt Lake game? I can dream can't I? Last edited by DadOf8 : 04-17-2005 at 09:52 PM.

So I heard that Checketts expects to be able to announce a stadium by the end of summer. Supposedly a lot of things have been coming out of the wood work to make it possible since the Governor made his support public.

Expansion? How does expansion work? What if it turns out (thinking optimistically of course) that, over the course of a few years, the stadium begins to sell out the 25,000 seats most nights? Does the current stadium design allow for expansion?

I think they start raising ticket prices if that happens.

Sure do, but why not throw some other ideas out there? For example, when AEG was working with architects on the HDC design, it just so happened that Jurgen Klinsmann was working with the Galaxy as a technical consultant--you know, tactics and training stuff. So Jurgen gets a look at the designs and says (I paraphrase): "You gotta put a roof on that thing." He recommends they take a look at White Hart Lane, his home stadium for the year he played with Spurs. The suits take a look, like what they see, and the HDC's most distinctive feature is born. So I'll follow Jurgen and propose a look at one of my favorite stadium designs, the Estadio Carlos Tartiere of Real Oviedo in Asturias, Spain. It opened in 2000, just in time to see Oviedo pinball down the table from the Spanish topflight. But they still have a great stadium! Capacity is 30,000 (all seats--no benches), which is close to the range we're looking for. It has a roof to hold in sound, decks to keep all the seats closer to the field, and a surprisingly open feel (considering the size of the roof). Some photos of the Tartiere: ![]() ![]()

There is no doubt in my mind that the Spanish have the best stadium designs in the world. I'm sure Uncle Dave has some first class ideas in store.
