You're missing the point. 12 goals is a very respectable tally for any player.

Just to put things in perspective, Crouch has as many or more league goals as other great strikers such as:

Joe Cole (Chelsea)
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Middlesbrough)
Heidar Helguson (Fulham)
Darius Vassell (Man City)
Jason Roberts (Wigan)
Michael Owen (Newcastle)
Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough)
Teddy Sheringham (West Ham)
Alan Shearer (Newcastle United)
Arjen Robben (Chelsea)
Robert Pires (Arsenal)
Nolberto Solano (Newcastle United)
Louis Saha (Manchester United)
Robin van Persie (Arsenal)
Damien Duff (Chelsea)
José Antonio Reyes (Arsenal)

Robinho (Real Madrid)

Obafemi Martins (Inter Milan)

Stephen McManus (Celtic)

Pernambucano Juninho (Lyon)
John Carew (Lyon)
Alexander Frei (Rennes)

Pierre Van Hooijdonk (Feyenoord)

I haven't seen Crouch much this year. Last year with Southampton he played fairly well. I think the thing he didn't get much credit for was how nicely he played overall. Not just in scoring in the 2nd half of the season but holding up the ball and making nice passes. Granted anyone needs to do that to play in the prem but he didn't seem to get enough credit for doing it as well as he was. If he keeps playing well I wouldn't be suprised to see some England fans change their tune after he bags 4 in the World Cup.

I think a part of it is that the expectations for a Liverpool striker are so much higher and with such a brilliant defense in place and a pretty bloody good midfield you have to say he hasn't been as prolific as he should have been. That doesn't mean I think he sucks or that he shouldn't be played, I think he is a little of the Heskey mold - except he's better - in that he does much more off the ball than given credit for. He was more prolific at Southampton because he was pretty much all they had. Whereas you look at the goalscorers at Liverpool, everyone is expected to score given the chance. But still I think it's a positive year overall, with the exception of a few woeful performances I'm positive about things overall. Even with being out of Europe I still think things are good and will certainly be better next season, it's all a process and much like RSL we can't expect things to turn around over night, but we can expect measurable change and improvement.
