MLS Officiating Scandal? I was talking with a friend of mine this afternoon who listens to talk radio (and isn't a soccer fan, incidentally) who told me that on 1320 today they mentioned a story in which an MLS official arrived in town for the Columbus game asked an RSL official where his "gifts" were. He went on to mention that the 1320 commentator indicated that this was a confirmed occurrence in other areas of the MLS as well.
Has anyone else heard this? If this is true, could this be the source of our officiating woes this season? __________________

Steve Brown was talking about it. I think it happened at a game earlier this year, not the Cbus game last weekend.
He also talked about the fines given out this year. I don't remember all the details but he made the comparison of player x who makes 200k gets a pair of yellows and is fined $1,000. Kenny Cutler who makes teacher wages gets a pair of yellows and also get the $1,000 fine. So during the month that Kenny sits out a game because of caution points he makes $300! The jist of his thoughts was: here are a couple of ways to gain more credibility as a Major League.

Yeah, it was Steve Brown, he said it was the first game of the season.

That's what's always happened, or so I thought. Pretty sad, isn't it?

Gifts?
Uh, did this referee not hear what happened last time people tried to give "gifts" for athletic-related activities in Salt Lake City?

Yeah, we got to host the Olympics. Worked out pretty well, too. Unless you were one of the unfortunate souls who took Juan-Antonio at his word. (Of course you won't get in trouble. We always do these things--now gimme that shotgun and get out of here.)
