Distance to Real Salt Lake Events

Over the last few months I have heard quite a bit about how far Salt Lake City is for the people that live in different areas.

I understand that no one likes to drive, but there are people on these forums from Utah, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, and even Cache counties. Not to mention Idaho, Wyoming, and yes, Florida. **Wave to SoccerPrime**

Everyone on here is starting to sound like a bunch of old men talking about how when they went to the soccer match they had to walk up hill both ways in the snow to do it. I'm sure if you asked any of us eight months ago if we would drive to Evanston or Wendover to watch an MLS game, we would all have gone without a peep. We're already spoiled and crying and we haven't had a single match.

Salt Lake City is a good central location along the Wasatch Front. It doesn't matter if the majority of us don't live there, it's a good place for meetings, and of course in my opinion a stadium. I've made a list of distances so you can see how far people are coming to go to Loyalists meetings, press events, or future matches, at least for the next two years.

-=-=- Distance to Salt Lake City -=-=-

38 Miles - Ogden, Weber County
39 Miles - Orem, Utah County
44 Miles - Provo, Utah County
59 Miles - Payson, Utah County
59 Miles - Brigham City, Box Elder County
82 Miles - Logan, Cache County
340 Miles - Boise, Idaho
439 Miles - Cheyenne, Wyoming
2335 Miles - Tampa, Florida

-=-=- Distance to Murray -=-=-

32 Miles - Orem, Utah County
37 Miles - Provo, Utah County
44 Miles - Ogden, Weber County
52 Miles - Payson, Utah County
65 Miles - Brigham City, Box Elder County
89 Miles - Logan, Cache County
346 Miles - Boise, Idaho
442 Miles - Cheyenne, Wyoming
2338 Miles - Tampa, Florida

So there you go. As it stands right now, those of us in the Ogden area drive one mile less than those that live in the Orem area. So the next time someone from the Orem area complains about how far Salt Lake City is, I'm giving them negative rep, and I'm the Admin so that means -10. I expect anyone who, in the future, complains about the distance to a soccer match or Loyalist function to be given negative rep. In my opinion, the only people that have the right to complain are those driving 50+ miles. Everyone else, I don't want to hear it.

We're soccer fans. We roadtrip to go to away games and watch matches played on the other side of the world with dreams of some day attending. We are not going to cry over a 40 mile commute!

It's been bugging me quite a bit. Thanks for listening.

BUT I LIVE AT LEAST THREE BLOCKS FROM RES... HOW AM I GOING TO FIND PARKING THAT IS CLOSER THAN MY HOUSE ON GAME DAY!?! 😲

I agree with these points... however because I am only blocks from the meetings we have had, RSL HQ and the stadium I didn't feel it was my place to make these points.

Lets be thankful for what we have... I propose this become the "this is why I am glad I get to attend MLS games and have a local team" thread.

hey dysko, welcome back. Have a good time?
I feel that its not my place to get involved in this debate, but for the record, thanks to Neil I feel very far away.
At least you all know my excuse for not attending events and activities.

These are all good points...

I have driven 7000 miles (roundtrip) for one match so I am sure you never heard a peep out of me about the distance.
In fact I was driving from Payson to news conferences and player announcements... I don't live that far away now... but I would have driven, ridden a bike or walked to Salt Lake on game day if it came to that!

OK maybe it was only 5000 miles it was still a few miles to travel for one match

Since I'm the only one writing from Orem, I'm assuming some of the comments above were aimed in my direction. I'll certainly apologize if I've sounded whiny. That wasn't my intention. But I will never apologize for a respectfully-stated opinion, even if it's unpopular!

My comments have been that we should spread the Loyalists' meetings around: some in the UC, some in SLC, and some in Ogden if you want! That way, it will be more convenient for everybody at some point.

As far as the stadium location goes, I don't support a Murray stadium because it's closer to Orem. I support it because I'd like to see more acreage and parking close to the stadium. I don't like going downtown because parking is a pain. (This coming from a suburbanite, not urbanite, and I'm not going to apologize for that opinion, either!)

If that sounds whiny, negative-rep away, everyone! 😉

It was in July, I drove out to DC to see DC United v. Nottingham Forest play a friendly... at the time they were my two favorite teams... ironically this match was the same day they announced the Salt Lake expansion (July 14)

I went out for a week... but the sole reason for going was the match and I planned some other activities(sightseeing and the sort) so people would not think me completely insane for going that far for a soccer match!

It didn't help of course ppl thought I was out of my mind but it was, for me, a once in a lifetime opportunity so I went...

Sorry not trying to hijack the thread! :o

Not directed at you, the comments were in general.

I live in Provo, and it is my dream come true to have a team in SLC. I'm actually looking forward to driving up to the southernmost trax stop and taking trax from there, maybe a few of us from the UC. We'll have a lot of fun waving our flags and showing off our RSL gear on the train :D

Distance is not an issue when it's in my state!
