Quakes vs. LA Aug 27 [R]

Man did you guys see this match?
It was great, with Quakes beating LA 2-1 in SJ.
Moreno, Donovan and Califf all scored against their old team. 🙂

And every time Donovan touched the ball the boos were the loudest I have ever heard (consistently).
I have never heard a MLS goal get so many boos in my life.

The SJ attendance was 24,000 and EVERY seat was taken in the house.
Its hard to imagine MLS moving from SJ.
If it happens, it will be a sad day for American soccer.

The problem is when LA isn't in town and they only average about 8-9000 people. They also need an owner that is willing to keep them in SJ and that may be an even bigger factor than their poor attendance in any game that doesn't include Donovan.

And that was a very entertaining game. Both teams were really going all out against each other.

My favorite part was the "Who Wears the Pants?" display by the Smurfs fans, with an honorable mention going to Steve Sampson's new wannabe-Elvis 'do...

The game was awesome, though, too. Califf looked relieved to have scored on that header.

It was a great game, although I thought LA deserved a point.

As for the crowd, 24K is very rare in SJ and it's a shame that it takes anti-Landonism to bring them out. As Aero said, they're averaging closer to 10K for all games even with this crowd factored in.

I've been to Spartan many times and they can put 32,000 in there. It wasn't full. But they were into the game and that's good for MLS to show on national TV.

Unfortunately for Quakes fans, they've never had stable local ownership, and that's why they'll likely be moved. No one--at no one with credibility--has stepped forward to bankroll the team, and AEG doesn't do smaller markets anymore. Most of us want the Quakes to stay in San Jose, but it's going to take a local owner with a stadium deal and neither are likely at this point.

My friends here in Orlando seem to think that the Quakes are staying in SJ.
Heres to hope.

(On a RSL note, SJ had more than double our points now...OUCH!)
