For me ...

Interesting the names that pop up. Some that I wasn't expecting.

For me I would go with ...

Jamie Carragher - just a genius at reading the game and adds so much to the defence; he just has imppecable timing on his tackles and is scared of no one.

Thierry Henry - because he can make a goal come from the worst ball and has brilliant targeting on nearly every shot. Oh and did I mention that he runs the 3 second mile?

Paul Scholes - no, not for that reason! Because he owns the midfield, he will tackle anyone and is one of the best communicators I have seen around the EPL, the midfield is always so well organized, boy I wish he hadn't retired from international football.

Frank Lampard - Hard man Frank, very disciplined and willing to play whatever time it takes to win.

I've been watching him dominate games in three leagues for several years and I think his combination of touch and power would translate very well to our game here in the States.

He's the only current Argentina International who reminds me of Batistuta.

If there's a question about him it's that he can disappear for blocks of time in a game, not unlike Vieri or, in MLS terms, Ruiz. But he's in a class far beyond Carlos Ruiz.

I guess he only barely qualifies as an EPL player, but I'll include him on a technicality.

No, I agree with you, he is certainly a player who can make a difference, it does concern me that at times I forget that he is on the field but overall he would do very well almost anywhere he played.

Can't resist this one. Scholes is one of my favorite players and certainly Scholes is willing to tackle anyone, but he probably times tackles poorer than anyone I've ever seen play in the premiership! (Which, incidently, is why a 4-3-3 midfield with Scholes and Keane doesn't work well enough, IMO. Scholes gets way too deep on the field as he tries to give Keane cover. In the process, you lose out on Paul's immense attacking qualities.)

My four would be (in order):

*Thierry Henry: The best FORWARD in the world. His European and international contributions don't really stand out, but he's been insanely good for the Gooners in the Premiership.
*Wayne Rooney: The British media are building him up so they'll have a fall guy after Germany, but he is so talented and is already close to being a complete player at such a young age.
*Petr Cech: Six Alex Ferguson once said a top-draw goalkeeper will bag 10 extra points over the course of the season, and there's nobody better in the prem than this fellow.
*Rio Ferdinand: I was going to pick Jon Terry here, I really was. But I won't accept the idea that he's a better defender than Rio (even if Ferdinand is a knuckle head)! Rio has better defensive qualities and reads the game better than any defender in the EPL. If United can ever straighten out its problems with corner kicks and get someone who can give consistent service, Ferdinand will finally start scoring goals for United, too.

Ok, I'll give you that Scholes has some issues, but in terms of a player that is versatile he's great and effort is always 100%, not to mention his gritty attitude .. I like his percetion of the game he reads it so well.

Now Rio? Noooooo ... better than Terry, nooooooo you can't mean it? Apart from the worst attitude since Anelka, he's a loose cannon, leaves his team mates open all day long, I admit he has some serious qualities but Rio?
