"Loyalists Insider" 08/19

Ethan is out of town and I had to email this out on my own, so I'm afraid it might end up in spam folders, etc. since it's a different address than usual. So I'm posting it here for those who don't receive it.... :dancing:

** ROAD TRIP TO DENVER
The Loyalists have planned our first road trip. We will attend the RSL-Rapid game on Saturday October 1st in Denver. We have been in contact with the front office of Real and the Rapids in planning the trip.

The group will leave SLC at 10pm on Friday September 30th and travel by Lewis Bros. bus to Denver. Activities for the afternoon of the game are being finalized. We have a great rate secured with the Embassy Suites in Denver for Saturday night. The bus will return to SLC on Sunday morning arriving in SLC that evening.

The game is the 3rd in the Inaugural Rocky Mountain Cup. If Real manages a win or tie on September 21st then the Cup could be won with us in attendance in Denver!

Rates for the trip are:
Single occupancy= $135
Double occupancy= $105
Triple occupancy= $95
Quad occupancy= $90

This includes the transportation, hotel, and game ticket.

There will be a paypal link on the website or Loyalists can send a check.
Make it out to The Loyalists and mail it to:

RSL

No one under 18 will be allowed without a parent on the trip. Children under 14 are not invited.
This is a Loyalist trip funded in part by dues. Each Loyalist can invite one guest at the Loyalist rate. All others will be charged a $15 fee, the value of Loyalists membership.

** DON’T THROW THINGS ONTO THE FIELD
To quote GM Steve Pastorino “…support and passion for RSL has opened eyes across America, created an unmatched atmosphere in our home stadium and fueled our players in their quest for their first playoff berth. Our home field advantage is genuine.”

To have this reputation after less than one season is remarkable. Having it take a turn for the worst would be devastating. Refrain from throwing anything on to the field. When things don’t go well on the field feel free to find a way of expressing yourself without putting the safety of the players and officials at risk. Throwing things on the field from the stands in the lamest form of protest. If you see others throw stuff from the stands speak up to them and discourage it. Report it to an usher.

Throwing things on the field or at the opponent and officials will not lead to better or more consistent officiating.

Mr. Checketts has spoken about having a world-class organization. Let’s have that extend into the stands. Don’t let people remember RSL for acts of hooliganism, mild though they may be. Let people new to the sport in Utah and soccer fans across the nation remember RSL’s initial season for the love affair between the team and its fans.

** TAILGATE FOR SATURDAY SAN JOSE GAME
Join the Loyalists starting at 5:00 in the southwest corner of the Rice-Eccles stadium west parking lot to tailgate! Cost is $2 and covers hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks and everything else that people bring. Bring along an extra salad or dessert and a few friends this Saturday! Remember to introduce yourself to other Loyalists so they can get to know you.

** MAN OF THE MATCH
MOTM vs. New England August 10, 2005
By Scott Stucki

In an astounding show of voter apathy, Jason Kreis wins Loyalist Man of the Match for the August 10th game at New England. Five total votes were cast, with three of them going to Jason.

Laura Layton voted for Mr. Kreis because of his consistency.

Taylor Stucki selected Jason because he scores when we most need him to.

Ethan Gomberg opined: “This was the beginning of the week of Kreis. His solid boot to the goal to score RSL's lone goal against the best team in the league in their home field was the best highlight of the game.”

Other votes were cast for Andy Williams and Jordan Cila.

MOTM vs. Kansas City Aug. 13, 2005
By Juliana Montgomery

We’ve been waiting all season, and the moment finally arrived last Saturday. Jason Kreis, the king of goals and this week’s Man of the Match, hit the 100 mark. Although the milestone came in a loss to Kansas City, the Loyalists and the fans around the league celebrated in style. Fans threw streamers from all over the stadium in celebration during the game, and the historic goal was overwhelmingly voted Sierra Mist Goal of the Week on mlsnet.com.

Here’s what the Loyalists had to say about the occasion:

From Ethan in Florida: “Goal #100 [was] possibly a candidate for Goal of the Year. Although Cila got things started and KC won, Kreis stole the show with his dramatic and sudden rocket. Congrats Jason!”

Loyal Leader Glenn Webb stated, “Jason Kreis! Mr. Goal hits another one. One of the best of
his career! I wish we had more players with his heart.”

From Scott Stucki: “Yet another vote for Jason Kreis for goal 100. As usual, his work rate was
high, and topped off by the best goal I have ever seen.”

** CAPTION THAT PHOTO!
Last week’s winning caption for the photo at http://www.only1.net/RSL/andy_jamie.jpg was submitted by Quinn Aubrey: “What a day to run out of deodorant. This stuff I borrowed from my wife smells like roses. I sure hope Jamie and the rest of the guys don't notice."

Go to http://www.only1.net/RSL/mr_100_goals.jpg and then email your suggestion for a funny caption to <edited> by Saturday, Tuesday, August 23rd. The winning caption will be announced later!

** LOYALISTS LEADERSHIP CHANGE
David Hale has stepped down from his position as VP of the Loyalists. Thanks to Dave for everything he’s done and good luck to him in other pursuits!
