Arsenal vs. New Castle

I was watching Arsenal and New Castle last night (don't tell me the score, I recorded the 2nd half and fell asleep) and thought the commentators were hilarious. It sounds like they got an Arsenal Fan and a New Castle fan and just listen to them jibe about the game. I heard such priceless comments as, "Yeah, he's a brililant ref, brilliant rubbish of a ref.", "That tackle was a leg breaker." "No it wasn't there's no blood, get up and play." and "New Castle's manager is always moaning about something, he's a right moaner he is."

Anyway, I don't really follow either of these teams, but listening to the commentary made it a lot more entertaining and the game actually became more interesting. They did talk a little about the players and why they liked them so it helped me to learn more about the teams. If anyone reading this doesn't get Fox Soccer Channel, you really should get it. It's only $6 extra with Comcast. If not for anything else, for the Premiership matches, they're great.

Aero LOVES watching those soccer games where the fans are the commentators! I have to admit, it is really hilarious, they don't bore you with stupid details, they rip on the players that need to be ripped on, and the accents just make it even funnier! :dancing:

I was watching the same game last night. Absolutely hilarious. The Newcastle guy was so funny at the end. I won't give it away since you haven't watched it yet, but it was really great. You won't be disappointed when you watch the rest of the match just for the commentary alone, not to mention a fairly decent soccer match.

That was BAD NEWS. The Arse were a bit sloppy in the midfield. Cesc Fabregas has got some seriously huge boots to fill, though...

I watched it last Sunday, though, so I didn't have the fan commentary going on.

I watched the first half as well, and this is something they do fairly often with Premiership matches. They have two commentators, one going for one team, the other going for the other. It's great! It's like sitting in the stadium next to the two most rabid fans, one of Team A, the other of Team B.

You should have heard these guys rip on the line judges.

I guess the most impressive thing is that these guys REALLY know what they're talking about. They call a good game.

This is called FANZONE (including the email/text message bar at the bottom), and FSC is having an MLS FANZONE competition to find a pair of fan commentators for an MLS game. A lot of people over on BigSoccer complain about MLS commentators (I've heard some doozies myself), so now we have a chance to show how we would do it.

This could be the start of something good. Something ReAL good.

Thanks for the info Burninator. One other thing I remembered from watching this was one of the fans asked the other whether it was more important that his team wins the Premiership or that England wins the World Cup. The other fan commented that he was tired of the World Cup and his favorite players getting injured in World Cup qualfiers and that it was more important that his team wins the Premiership.

I'm not sure if I feel the same way. Sure I would like RSL to win the MLS cup, but those occur every year. The World Cup only happens once every four years and I'd be REALLY happy if the USMT were to win a World Cup. I might even quit making fun of Landon Donovan if they win.

Supporting MLS before the USMNT is completely illogical to me. MLS Cups don't mean JACK next to a semifinal or final appearance in a world cup. It is very important that we support MLS because in doing so we support the USMNT (how do you think we got to be ranked 6th by FIFA?), but at the same time, we need to support the USMNT before MLS because it is so much more important on the world stage.

I don't make fun of any MLS players that I hate while they play for the USMNT. I support them. I cheer for them. While they play for MLS, that's a different story. Dempsey's a good example. I hated him in the first RSL/Revs game. Our guys would touch him ever so slightly and he would go to the ground. The worst part was the referee bought it nearly every time. When he plays for the USA, however, I'm right there with him, and I love the kid. He's really good. I just hate him when he plays in MLS :disgust:
