Mixed emotions with this one, and even tougher since we had to listen to 1280 over the net and couldn't see what was going on.
Great for Jason to get his 100th goal--that makes the day. Also, the lads came back from a big deficit and put up a good fight. Unfortunately, it sounded like we were below par on defense, gave up the early goal (again), and couldn't find the net when we had chances in the first half. And what's up with an attendance of only 12,305? That's our lowest of the year. Officiating--you tell me. Watson gets a red, and some "fans" throw stuff on the field in frustration. Can't happen. We're classier than that. Yell all you want, but NEVER throw stuff on the field. So from our view here in San Diego, it was great night for Jason but otherwise frustrating. At least everyone else in the West lost--except for the two who played each other. San Jose couldn't get the job done, although at least Colorado only got one point. __________________ Easy to be hard; hard to be smart. --Old Gunny Last edited by Rover : 08-13-2005 at 09:58 PM.

It will be interesting to read the reports from those who were at at the game. I was stuck reading the awful play-by-play that was posed on mlsnet.com

I left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth. The fans throwing stuff on the field really was classless. I would hope that we were better than that. Apparently not. Around me though I did some fans get after others for throwing things on the field which was encouraging to me. That really kind of made me mad to see our fans acting like that. I want to be know for good fans and not classless ones... I don't know what to think about Jamie's foul. He came at the guy in frustration and kind of pushed him hard from the side/behind. The guy hit the boards and the ref reacted quickly and harshly. I really hate fouls when the boards are involved. They always seem to be worse. If it happens in the middle of the field it probably isn't even be a card.... Yeah, I was glad to see Jason get his 100th. It also certainly wasn't a "garbage goal". It was a GREAT shot! Very pretty. He should be proud of that hopefully it will be up for goal of the week. It was very nice. The defense was not great, but KC was also making some really well timed runs. A couple of times it looked like offside, but the flag stayed down and I was upset. On one of Sealy's runs though the defense was holding right in front of me and I realized that even though it looked like Sealy was offside to others in the stadium he actually just made a very well timed run. Our defense wasn't sharp, but KC's timing seemed to be very good tonight. I also felt that I think the third (maybe the second) goal was on DJ. He came out for the ball and wiffed. There were defenders around, but they cleared out to give DJ room. You can ask why the KC player wasn't marked at the back post which is a good question, but DJ wiffed again coming off his line. That is starting to concern me. I don't know what to say about the refs. I guess it was standard fare for the MLS. The refs just aren't very consistent. Jason's goal that was called back was called back incorrectly in my estimation. They replayed it on the jumbotron and it really didn't look like he hit it w/ his hand. I presume that is what the ref called. I just watched a TV interview w/ Jason. He said that he wasn't overly disappointed w/ Jamie. He likes the fight in the kid. He didn't think it was a red card foul. The interviewer also baited him on the refs. Jason said something to the effect of I know that I am not supposed to say this, but the refereeing in MLS is not consistent. The level of play is well beyond the quality of referees in the league. He said that there are 2 or 3 good refs and wonders why the league can't seem to keep them. I wonder if after having so many players starting to speak out against the inconsistency of the refs if the league will maybe do something about it. That would be great. --Editted to clarify a point.

Not to be negative or anything but I have a feeling it will just get the players fined. Edit: That was 500 posts!!!

It may, but if enough top players start speaking out I presume they will be forced to listen. Especially if players speak out when they know that they will get fined. That says that they are willing to lose some money to talk about a real problem in the league. I am all for the players speaking out about it in a rational and calm manner. I think that Jason did that tonight. He didn't attack Stott or anyone who reffed tonight. He just said that consistency is a problem w/ refs in MLS right now. I thought it was well put and didn't have an agenda. I would like to see more of it.

I left before Jaime's foul. The only thing I threw on the field was streamers when Cila and, later, when Kreis scored. Overall the game was very disappointing. It seemed like the midfield couldn't play without Mathis there. It was like they were lost without him. Eddie Pope seemed like he was tired out there and the rest of the defense was playing uninspired. The only high points were Cila and Kreis. There were a few streaks of brilliance from Williams and Watson, but other than that there wasn't much to cheer for.
It also sucks that only 12,000 showed up to see Kreis' 100th goal. RSL needs to start winning some games, both home and road games, to bring back the fans. I hate to say it, but if the fan support keeps dropping off, it's going to be hard to get the community behind a soccer specific stadium. It's hard to convince borderline fans to support a losing team. I'll keep supporting RSL even if they lose all 30 games, but I'm not a typical fan either. Oh yeah, and the refs suck doggie rocks.
