Iggy's was the place, to watch a win.

For the handful of Loyalists and others who gathered at Iggy's for the MLS All Star Game watch party, something unusual happened, a win for our team. While it wasn't quite the same as watching our beloved Real Salt Lake come out with a win, it was quite satisfying to watch the MLS All Stars make Fulham look like a bottom half EPL team in preseason training.

Despite the tired legs of Fulham making things easy on the pitch for the MLS squad, the roles of the two Americans Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra illustrated how far MLS needs to go reach the the level of the EPL. In MLS, both Bocanegra and McBride would be starters for every game in which they were available for their clubs. In the EPL, the players have to fight for their place in the team with no guarantees of playing time. Two members of the USMNT have to fight for their place on the squad. Is there a single member of the USMNT pool that doesn't have a guaranteed starting spot in MLS?

Of course, MLS has come a long way since 1996. Can you imagine a team from the EPL agreeing to play in the all star game in 1996? It is not certain that MLS could have beaten a then first division side, let alone a team from the EPL. It was exhilarating to watch a team comprised of MLS players who aren't necessarily among America's best dominate a squad comprised of EPL quality. Maybe in another 10 years, the MLS squad will be capable of dominating a top European club.

OK it looks like chicago style pizza is the winning dish. We won't lose a road game the whole rest of the year.
