Comm. Garber chat has whitty RSL ending

Quinn from Salt Lake City:
What thoughts can you share with us about the expectations the league had for Real Salt Lake and what is the measuring stick used to determine the success of the expansion clubs?

Commissioner Garber:
Real Salt Lake has been a great success so far. Great owner, great market and we're optimistic about a new facility. Dave Checketts has a passion for the game, he's hired a terrific staff and they have integrated the team quickly within the Utah sports community. Clearly the team hasn't performed on the field at the level expected but that's not unusual for expansion teams. There is no formal "measuring stick" ... ultimately we look at economic position, media coverage, sponsorship revenue and a variety of other indicators.

Okay, so basically he's saying that we aren't Chivas but not by much... and that we have superb fans, staff, community, etc. I'll take that in the first year. No use having a playoff bound team if only 5,000 show up each game. or less... (cRapids anyone? oh wait, since when have they been playoff bound? ha ha ha.) Seriously though... better to have a solid foundation than a toppling tower.

Here here! The continued success of the franchise must have its foundation in the support of its fans.

RSL can still make the playoffs.

In the grand scheme of things, that's the only thing that matters at this point.
