The Grizzlies were really isolated in the AHL and travel costs were as a result quite expensive. (Their closest opponent were in Texas)
Their new league includes franschises such as Las Vegas, Long Beach and other western teams and it should be much easier to 'make ends meet' budget wise.

I don't live in Utah but I am a big hockey fan (originally from the Northeast).
Rabble had it right about the Grizz. I think this new league will work out for them, plus it gives the owners more control. In the AHL (Grizz's old league) the NHL teams told the Grizzlies what players to have, what coach to have, what the coach teaches, etc. In the new ECHL league, the Grizzlies make all of their own decisions.
I hope they are successful. Plus the season starts right about when RSL's season is over so I encourage RSL.org posters to go attend some hockey games!

I've had grizzlies season tickets for I think 6 or 7 years. I've gotten a couple of my other hockey buddies to some Real games. Get 'em hooked one at a time.

I used to love going to the Golden Eagles games back in the Salt Palace as it was the best fan atmosphere at any local sporting event at the time. In the early 80s I would attend about 5-10 games each year. Crazy Ray Brown used to lead the crowd in cheers throughout the game. (Loved the 4-way cheer where each side of the arena would in turn shout EAGLES!!) The championship games in 1980 and 1981 were quite memorable. I fondly remember players such as Doug 'Pizza' Palazzari, Joey Mullen, Dennis Houle, Rick Heinz, and many others.

The Grizzlies games just don't seem the same at all however and I tend to make about 1 game a year. Too much of a 'jock rock' atmosphere for me. I really wish they could take a look at what is going on up at Rice-Eccles where the support groups and other fans create the atmosphere instead of blasting music over the loud speakers every time the play stops and playing that silly horn at about 120 decibles after a goal. I wish they would let the fans make their own noise to celebrate a score. If the Grizzlies were to return to an atmosphere where the crowd gets into the game and makes the noise on their own, I'd be likely to attend many more games.
