Unfortunately Mathis won't win because the Dallas tv station didn't get the best angle on the goal. If they had the shot from either end zone, they would see what Mathis did to Garlick...He killed the ball inside-out. Garlick started to go to his right and couldn't recover in time.

Not being in the RSL viewing area, I could only see the Mathis goal on the GOTW link. I did watch the DC/LA game and Freddy's goal was actually tipped by an LA player... it was nice, but a shot from that far out is spectacular!

If you have a pc with cable or DSL you might try this . The broadcast is sometimes a little late (or not at all in the case of last Sat.) but it's at least something.

The only thing that brings Adu's goal even CLOSE, in my mind, is the context of the goal. I think Mathis is doing pretty respectably, considering that every single soccer-playing teenager in America is probably voting for Freddy.

No kidding!!! Let's see a football kicker try a 40 yard field goal where your margin of error is +/- 12 inches and you have to kick a bullet with a group of people 10 yards away trying to put up a human wall and another person back at 40 yards that is trying to keep it from going in. How many could actually pull something like that off?
