I hope none of the flag bears were offended when I asked them why they were flying DC United colors. The response was that there was a crown on the skull.

I don’t quite get the death and military theme, either…. But at least there were a lot of flags!

Why do I feel like my flags are not good enough?

When I made the lion one the only comment I got was "It looks too much like a dog."

When I made the skull-n-crossbones one I get DC colors.

One of the things I want to accomplish is to intimidate the opposing players.. or at least make it known that they are in a hostile environment. I don't throw stuff or engage in violence, so a skull and crossbones I thought was a logical move. I think the crown should make sense.

But to everyone criticizing the flags, may I gently inquire where your flags are? 😴

I don't have any. That's where mine are.

Point taken, but still: huh? :P

The flags are awesome.
I think the real question is why do we use a skull and crossbones to indicate poison.
I thought pirates were much more likely to make someone walk the plank then poison them.

I thought that those flags rocked.

I forgot my flags though. :frusty: I felt naked without them.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the "Skull and Crossbones" symbol doesn't HAVE to conote piracy or even poison. It can serve as a symbol of warning, or danger, or ill omen. Those last three can be indicative of what Jake and others are trying to accomplish, which I salute them for. I don't have a flag, and in fact you could say I have "flag envy". I think, however, there are/will be those who automatically relate the skull and crossbones to pirates and think, "huh? I don't get it..."

Everyone is free to make whatever flags they'd like to make. As far as I know, there are no rules. Sure, it makes sense to keep it clean, but other than that anything goes.

I don't want to get into anything that seems critical of someone's handiwork. As I said before, the folks who have gone to the trouble and expense to make flags are to be appreciated.

Would I personally go with some of the designs I've seen? No, I wouldn't. But that should have no weight for those who make them. It's the variety and diversity of flags that give a supporters section its character, and that's something that can't--or shouldn't--be dictated.

So if there are comments from time to time about flags or streamers or signs or whatever, consider them discussion points on the forum and not attempts to force anyone in a particular direction. And keep making flags--you can't have too many.

And for the record, I didn't think the lion looked too much like a dog. 😉

I didn't think so, it looked kind of like fire, but that just made it cool so...
