This does suck. Especially since the US women's softball team were the hottest things going last time. Very lame.
Lets at least hope the US Mens soccer team makes it, this time.

Americans win at BMX & it's going to be in Beijing in 2008.
A couple of cycling events that Americans don't win at were dropped. Baseball's drug policy is a joke & the IOC did not like that.

At least they didn't eliminate soccer, but still this really sucks. I think you're all right about this being due to anti-American sentiment in the world and isn't G.W's favorite sport baseball?

Actually, I think a lot of this has to do with venues--there are lots of places (Beijing comes to mind) where baseball has a limited appeal. So, you get the Olympics, and have to build a baseball stadium, then after the Games, what do you do with it? As we've seen with RFK, they don't convert to soccer stadiums very well, plus of course there will have already been a nice soccer stadium built, so.... I mean, ask yourself, when was the last time you heard or read about the velodrome they built for the LA Games? Same problem--Americans don't go out for watching guys in spandex cycle around a track 'til they're dizzy. Just because we're America doesn't mean our "national sport" has to be everybody else's. Viva futbol!
