Was the Soda-pop thread too off-topic?

It was my impression that anything (within reason) goes in the off-topic thread, but some people felt that the soda-pop thread was too off topic. I'd like to open up a discussion as to what people think should be posted in the off-topic area. Just for the record, I posted the soda-pop thread because I was really bored and thought it might be interesting to see what RSL fans' favorite drinks are. If this is just too off-topic, just neg rep me. 🙂

I am proudly unaffiliated from any political group. They're all wacko. Stupid republicans. Stupid democrats.

Yeah, my religious views are pretty easy to figure out if you know me at all.

And that's none of your business.

Oh wait, did anybody find this post offensive? :D

I voted the first choice. I don't like filtering through a million threads about people's personal lives, but it's just as easy to not click on them, so what's it to me?

I think as long as you don't violate Neil's board rules, anything goes.

There are some nasty threads on BS that I have never gone to and yet I still like going over there (for the most part).

If you don't like whats being said in the Off Topic forum, don't go there.

My opinion is that the overall tone of the board is the result of all content, including what shows up in the off-topic forum. You simply can't keep everything separate, since there's an inevitable cross-over effect. The last month or so should be ample evidence that opinions (and hard feelings) have no electronic boundaries.

So I think the truly hot button issues--politics and religion, and probably sex too--should be left elsewhere. We don't need to go into those subjects because they will almost surely become divisive and have no true relevance to the reason for the board in the first place.

I joined this board because the people are great, the primary subject is soccer, it's not an exercise in one-upsmanship, and the tone accommodates both humor and quality discussion. In other words, it's not Big Soccer.

I hope we can keep this board at the level of quality that we've come to expect.

Great post Rover, I would rep you, but I was too free with it earlier.
