RSL Invite-Only Tryouts

Looks like the tryouts will be Jan 22nd. I hope we see some native Utahns out on the field in an RSL kit come April.

Exciting! I wonder if they would allow the public to watch the tryouts. Any guesses on that?

I was excited to see BYU listed as one of the organizations that the invites were sent out to. Gooooo cougars! I mean, goooo Real!

My dad used to play in an over-30 league at Salt Lake Indoor Soccer back in the day... it's in Murray.

indoor soccer

if you want info on indoor soccer, depending on where you want to maybe play at or check out.

you can go to website letsplayindoorsoccer.com...and go from there in which i believe it lists an indoor site to salt lake city(which is in murray) as well as woods cross and ogden area.

also, there is indoor soccer that is played at the olympic oval in kearns...and you can check that out by going to olyparks.com and click on link to indoor soccer

🙂 Interesting try out

Invitees only! The Technical Staff knows who can make it from Utah, they all have tried out for the Blitzz and either made it or didn't. The birth since 1982 rule takes out most of the Blitzz roster (but not from the Blitzz FC youth teams or scouted players). The National team/First Division experiance means only qualified type players can try out. But reading between the lines (note the residency or Green Card rule) this is a way to fill the "discovery" slots but not the foreign senior or the foriegn discovery player allowances as these probably come from the League office.

Best luck to the tryees. See you there!

tryout

I did see that article about trying out yesterday....the salt lake tribune has an article by peter richins today about the tryout, but it is pretty interesting mentioning names like jorge estrada, k.c. nordfors, and matt affleck who i know were born before the april 1, 1982 deadline.

so they shouldn't be allowed to tryout because of the deadline if they are making a big deal out of age restrictions. I honestly don't know if the utah blitzz have anyone under that deadline. if they are allowed to tryout isnt that hypocritical of them saying you have to be born after april 1, 1982.

does anyone know what this reserve practice squad that is being mentioned?

as in when does that start and what league will they play in,etc?

The article mentions Matt Affleck and Gilbert Gaertner from BYU. I’ve said this before on BS, I don’t think Affleck is MLS material. On the other hand, I witness Gaertner grow, mature and progress throughout last season. If he continues to progress at the same rate, my view is that he could at least perform on the reserve team. He is got some of that Brazilian flair in him that comes out from time to time. More of a play maker than a goal scorer.
