This is interesting...

http://www.dailyutahchronicle.com/media/paper244/news/2005/07/01/Sports/Rsl-Wont.Offer.Student.Discounts.Until.Fall-960511.shtml

Basically, there's a complaint that RSL isn't offering a student discount although they're using the U. facilities.

Thoughts on how a discount might boost attendance? Anyone? Bueller?

I can think of arguments for and against it. It's not a NCAA sactioned event, so why should a discount apply? On the other hand, it is on University property. Is there any evidence that a discount would bring more students to the games? If so, I say give them a discount, if not, then RSL needs to maximize their profits. Hey, the students can join the Loyalists too, if they want, and get a discount that way.

They could join and get a discount....if they get season tickets. Most college students usually don't have the $$ for that kind of upfront payent.

Unless they use part of their student loans, and I find RSL tickets to be the perfect use of financial aide.

They make it sound like since it's on campus they should be entitled to a discount. Not that I'm against it but the U stands to make a pretty penny from RSL for using RES already. It would help maximize profits if by offering the discount new patrons started coming, but if all interested students are already coming and paying full price it doesn't help the bottom line.

I think they're just mad because they can't park at the stadium on game days, mostly, to be perfectly honest.

Most "controversies" on campus can be boiled down to parking. 😉

Isn't that the case with most campuses?

Reality of life...the little guy gets the :pooh: . Those who can afford the extra couple of bucks are usually the ones who get the discount or freebies.

Personally, I don't think the students should get a discount. If it was a school sponsored event, then yes. If the students want a discount, maybe the U higher-ups can give up some of the concessions profit to ReAL to offset the cost.

Now THAT'S a good idea! Make the U the bad guy if they don't pony up for their students. Awesome!
