You're right, that was one of the topics discussed at the MLS board of governors meeting held June 6-7. I don't know how soon they might be planning on doing this. I expect it wouldn't be for a few years, as most MLS teams have yet to pull a profit. Spending more money on players probably wouldn't help in the short run but very well could in the long run. I guess we'll just have to see if the powers that be in MLS decide "it takes money to make money."

Rojas, 25 of Trinidad & Tobago, was signed by RSL on March 1, 2005. This season, the left-sided defender appeared in seven games, started six games, wasn't a very good defender, And was gone much of the time, anyway and logged 507 minutes during the teamβs 15 games. And my edit. __________________

I personally think that Marlon Rojas was a great person and a good defender.
I think that it is unfortunate that he has been let go. I think it is only because he was an SI. The times that I have spoken to him personally, he has been top-notch and helluva guy. Funny how people love a guy one week and make fun of him getting fired the next... I wish Marlon Rojas luck in the future. I for one am truly sad to see him go.

To be honest, I am very nervous about the MLS plan to spend big money on bigtime Euro talent. I am not sure MLS is stable enough for that kind of indulgence.
Maybe I am wrong, I hope I am. But it just seems that if the average cap per team in MLS is less than $2 million, to get anyone of superior Euro talent would cost way more than every team in our league. I mean didn't Real spend $40 million on the Becks transfer fee? MLS's total 2005 roster is about $25 million... Just call me a pariah...

Hey, pariah...I agree with you. I'm even nervous about MLS spending money to keep mediocre talent here. Slowly but surely seems to be doing all right so far...

HEY, PARIAH! Actually, I agree with you, and from what was said about the meeting they had, I suspect that the MLS leadership agrees with you, too. I don't think they are planning anything quite that drastic. I hope. :unsureani __________________

On the other hand, remember how cool it was to have Roberto Donadoni, Marco Etcheverry, and Carlos Valderrama in the league? I dont think MLS should pull an NASL and become a retirement league for some of the biggest names in history, but having a few marquee names helps everyone.
As much as i think Landycakes is a wuss for leaving Germany (that's my US Nats side talking) I think it is great for the league to have him here (except when he plays RSL, then he's the worst player Ive ever seen, and I tell him so as often as my voice will allow). MLS spending a few extra millions on a few great players would bring the level up faster than simply growing them here. That's why I think Youri Djorkaeff is a great asset for the league, even if it is only for a year or two.
