That was pure root for the small club to make Champions League stuff.

Who would people in Darmstadt, Germany root for? and who would people in Antrim, Ulster, Northern Ireland root for? What I mean is who would their local teams be?

I would appreciate it if anyone could help with this. I am still a soccer noob.

Take your pick in England, although I've followed Everton for years after growing disgusted with Chelsea and their supporters. I've never been embarassed by the actions of my fellow Toffees, even if the team hasn't always been the greatest.

As for Germany, if you're looking for bigger clubs near Darmstadt you have several options. The closest big city is Frankfurt, so you have Eintracht Frankfurt (Eintracht basically translates to United if you're curious). Eintracht bounces up and down from Bundlesliga.1 to Bundesliga.2 fairly often.

Next you have Mainz and Mannheim, but I'd advise go further south to Baden-Wurttemberg and VfB Stuttgart. They're one of two teams in Germany that I support (the other is 'Gladbach), and they are a good club with some promise for the future.

Their are bigger clubs, including Bayern and Schalke, with huge fan followings. But I've found it better to support clubs with whom I have at least some historic link and that truly represent a city and region.

I have a friend in Wishaw, Scotland. She is Motherwell...all the way. I don't know about Lanarkshire, but I will ask her.

HEY!!! My son just had a guy from Fife, Scotland teach him in a soccer camp. He was a Celtic fan, and he was AWESOME!! Okay, so I don't KNOW the guy, but he was definately passionate about his footy.

In my home, its Manchester United or nothing (were talking English Premier).
If you're not a Manc, you're a Wanc! 😆 GO RED DEVILS

(I'm kidding around ppl, don't freak)

I got caught up with some other stuff & neglected to follow up here. I've been playing as Fulham on the PC. I noticed that they have Steve Cherundolo, but I'm not sure of any other yanks that play for Fulham. I had to play around with the manager feature a bit and signed D.J. Countess and Landon Donovan to my team (okay, I only hate Donovan when he plays against RSL). It seems trendy to root for Man U and Arsenal, so I don't think I'll be rooting for them. I noticed that Fulham is playing the MLS all-star team, so just because they're doing that I might pull for them a bit more. My English friend is an Aston Villa fan so I'll pull for Villa too. It's just still hard for me to get really hyped up about any English teams when I have no ties to any of the teams. That's a problem I have with Major League Baseball too, I have no ties to any of the MLB teams, other than I lived in Anaheim for 5 months and Tampa for 3 months. But I'm not a big Angels fan nor am I a big Devil Rays fan. I'm the kind of person that has to have some kind of tie to a team. Now, if there was a guy out of Utah playing in the Premier League, that would make a difference. I'm just trying to figure out who I'd be rooting for now had my ancestors never left Scotland or Germany. It looks like I'll be doing a lot of soul searching on this one. 🙂

Actually they have Carlos Bocanegra and Brian McBride Cherundolo plays for Hannover 96, you know Cleetus' last team. I have a hard time rooting for Fulham. I think it is their uniforms.

Ah, well I hate Aston V's kit. I like Arsenal's. Fulham is ok. I haven't seen any teal and orange (ala Dolphins) in EPL. My favorite colors are cardinal red and royal blue. But I can't base a favorite team on colors, or I'd be a NFL Giants fan.

I think it is fine to root for anyone in the EPL except Manyoo, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Scholesy is a Liverpool supporter if that helps.

I think I am going to stick with Everton.

Duh, the answer was so obvious. I'm a Beatles fan like you wouldn't believe. Okay, my EPL team is (drum roll) Liverpool. I even like that they wear all red. I know that they're hated and their fans are considered to be "red necks". Oh well, I gotta root for the team Sir Paul would be rooting for.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
