Use whatever flows.
I mix pitch and field, uniform and kit, boot and cleat (SP?), match and game all the time. You're american and free to express what you want, the great thing....we'll understand becuase we speak soccer bilingual as well.

i will give you props if you say footy instead of soccer after the next match.

Ok, I feel really stupid now. What's a site supporter? It sounds self-explanatory - does someone want some money from me? 😕

I didn't post in the thread about the post game show because I don't listen. I would, but I'm usually still in the stadium at the post-match press conference, or interviewing in the locker room. I don't know Spencer more than casually saying hello as we pass, or just saying hi on the sidelines. But since you think we're all a bunch of kiss asses, I'll be sure to shove him into some mud and steal his lunch money the next time I see him. That should balance the force nicely.

I will admit to having been critical of SChecketts in the past for his seeming reluctance to talk soccer. I also respect him for having a pair to post here. I won't criticize bball soccer parallels as I make them myself.

Scotty G. claims to hate the game, but he can't be all bad - he is an Aggie.

I am usually in nearly the same situation as Neil on that one... but on sight I would not know Spencer Checketts from Spencer Davis! :D
But then I would not know Spencer Davis from Spencer Checketts either.

So I say shove him in the mud!!! we can split the lunch money! 😆

A site supporter is where you donate some money to the site, and you get some extras for it. I.E. an avatar, more message space, etc. Go to "Subscription" and it should tell you more.

As for Spencer:

I agree with fuegote, you can use many different terms, it's all good.

I have had no complaints about your postgame show, I knew basketball and baseball far before I knew soccer as well. I was one who threw a black streamer, and I thought it was cool, and I still do. I think all the one caller was trying to say was that we are still cheering for RSL all the way, the black streamers were what they were. We passed the all-time scoreless streak and we threw black streamers.

The reason we soccer fans have a sometimes volatile relationship with the media is that we feel slighted and downtrodden so often with the media. If you watch any espn network, the only mention of soccer you will get will be a goal on the top 10 once in a while, and as they show it, the anchors make fun of soccer. So we have gotten touchy, we have a chip on our collective shoulder, and whenever we feel even slightly wronged by the media, we sometimes lose our heads and get very mad. The reason, of course, being that we LOVE soccer, we are passionate about it, and that can only be a good thing for RSL.

Thanks to your family for bringing the team here, we love it. And to the dude that said we were ass-kissing, that was not ass-kissing. I really am grateful to them for bringing the team, I'm not trying to get anywhere by saying it. Now whether we should be personally attacking people on here is your own risk I guess. I don't see any problem with discussing which players have played poorly though.

Interesting thread. We have some . . . unusual folks hanging around these days.

I will say that I've been pleased with the postgame show from the beginning, and have said so. Here's what I posted about the "black streamer" topic (referring to Spencer Checketts):

I heard the whole show and he really wasn't negative about the black streamers. He mostly tacked around the whole issue. It was more that he thought it was a quirky response to the situation. He made it clear that he didn't want to hear about the record again--it's done, so let's move forward.

My point is that we had a wide variety of positions about the show, and they were represented.

Thanks to Spencer for his dedication to learning a game that seems simple but is actually filled with endless complications. We have so many "experts" because no one truly understands every facet of the game. My education began 30 years ago in London and, I'm proud to say, continues to this day.

I've played, coached, and officiated the game for decades, but it still fascinates me with its variety and possibility.

I can only hope the same for you.

Thanks again for all the great responses, I am glad to be here!

SC

I would suggest using a mix of "American" and "International" terms.

The biggest one of all. You must use the term Goalkeeper. Don't ever say Goalie, that just sounds bad.

I prefer to hear Uniform as opposed to Kit, and I usually prefer to hear Field as opposed to Pitch.

PS

Welcome to the boards, and yes I'm an ass-kisser. Feel free to invite me anytime to hang out with you guys or the team. If you need me to hang out on the bench durring the game, I'm willing. If you need me to carry the lads' luggage on away games, I could do that too.
